VW Fox 1.2 55hp 2006y - problem with G250 power steering sensor - fault 00816

Hi all,

I'm having problems with my hydraulic system for the steering. A yellow light poped up days ago and the fault was:

00816 - Power Steering Sensor (G250): Short to Ground
then all other combinations:
00816 - Power Steering Sensor (G250): Open or Short to Plus
00816 - Power Steering Sensor (G250): Faulty

I've check fuild level, flushed the system and filled new fluid, checked conectors on pumps' end and treated them with contact spray. The light goes off for an ignition or two and then again pops up. The steering is not heavy. I believe the pump has been replaced (I'm the second owner) as the new one TRW is labled 20.08.2014. The model is TRW 6r0423156c v278.

Current coding is 10110. I'm not in deep knowedege of this and I've read some treads here where for the same problem recoding is needed. My question is what should be the input for the new code?

Other suggestions are for weak battery - also repalced (47ah 360A) and I'm checking on the alternator as the values vary in the low end 13.20v - 13.66v.

We can't suggest any coding until you post an Auto-Scan made using the English version of VCDS since not all VW Fox vehicles are equipped and configured the same.

Yes, I've been there. But the question is about recoding - is this the right coding for the part (10110)? The rack seem OK to me, no noise, no vibration, no leakage. The fluid was in relatively good condition when changed, no visible broken cables or bad connections.

Few notes on the measuring blocks - turn rate remains 0 degrees when warning lamp is on and jumps on intervals when the fault is not present.

Is it a good idea to swap sensor G250 from another car and again if this is a software problem which code to use? In few threads here suggestions vary from 11210 to 11250?

Update - the problem is now gone. It was the alternator not charging properly. It looks like power steering is sensitive on power suppy below required leveles.
