Hello,

2003 T4 VR AES

I have runned my first diagnostic and have cleared the error codes that were showing.

A few are still present, only for the engine.

The T4 was made in China by Chin Chun Motor and most of VCDS option are not working, like resetting the services intervals (most channels are absent).

I also could not find the ignition 093 but could see an ignition angle of 8,3° BTDC. Is it out of tolerance and the timing chain need replacement?

If you have any idea on how to fix these issues that would be great.

I have checked Ross Tech Code list and most of mine are absent.

Thank you.

Braindead man.

I also could not find the ignition 093
Old-school: M3.8.1. Surprised to see that in a 2003. But "China" explains it.

could see an ignition angle of 8,3° BTDC.
Ignition Angle is when it's firing the sparkplugs. This has nothing to do with crank-to-cam timing.

If it really only has 132 tkm on it, I doubt there is anything wrong with the timing chain. Those old 12V VR6s were pretty good that way.

All those "Short to Ground" faults: Look for a missing +12V.

Hello Uwe,

Thank you for answering.

There is a grinding noise on the right side of the engine and I thought it would be the timing belt.

I will look for a wiring diagram for the T4 VR6 because I am not sure how all of these components are connected.

Thank you for your help.

I went to ErWin for an hour and took what I could but it did not help.

I found this PDF and have checked continuity between the components I could reach and the plug of the ECM/battery ground and there is continuity.

I was checking the components with VCDS and they are all OFF or using the default value.

Code:
Address 01: Engine (021 906 256 AC)
13:34:29
  0.0 % O2 Sensor
  0.0 % Lambda Regulation
0.0 % Lambda Learned Part Load
  0.0 % Lamda Learned Idle
  1.00 Tank Vent Oper.Mode (ACF)
0.00 g/s Idling Air Mass Learnt Value
  0.025 V Lambda Probe Voltage
  4.51 g/s Air Mass in
0.00 g/s Idling Air Mass Learned value
0.00 g/s Idling Air Mass Learned value
  0.0 % Lamda Regul.
  EGR OFF

I could see also a plug with red/white and brown/yellow unplugged but cannot see what it is in the diagram.

It appears also one ground was cut.

I am not sure how to proceed now.

I am a novice.

Not necessarily, Uwe. I have had to do chains to a handful of AES engines. The guides fail and or the intermediate shaft sprocket rounds off. I drove a 99 AES for longer than I should with chain noise, when I finally dug in it was running roughly, Found the guide gone and the chain had worn the special bolt ("pin" as it is called) nearly in half.

Never new a Chinese firm made T4s until now! Wow that is strange! Does it have an automatic or manual transmission? The 01Ps automatics that the american T4s came with are less than stellar, very common to fail.

Hello GTiTDi,

Thank you for your answer.

It is an automatic: AG4 Getriebe 01P. No problem to my knowledge at the moment.

The chain should be changed at 168tkms but this rattle worries me. It also come and goes. I will make a video when possible.

I have first to deal with these errors, then change the suspensions (I have dead Sachs and will put Bilstein B4).

Then to the mechanic.

I have also a leak on the top driver side through the wind screen but I have a garage so it is fine until now.

There is also a TV! inside (and a phone) but it does not work. I will try to fix it too.

Brain dead.

Update: I found a plug that was not connected: photo
I cleared the fault codes but they came back the same.

After this another plug next to it started leaking coolant????: photo

The diagram I found does not reall match my relay layout: photo
I have checked all the 53 and they are all good.

I have also ask help from EMEA VW but they have forwarded my request to APAC. No answer since 2 weeks; even with reminder.

I think I will give the van to a mechanic. I am frustrated to say the least as I do not find the right information on erWin or online.
