B6 Passat PLA 2.0 retrofit

Hi All,
First post with my shiny new Hex V2 interface

I'm in the process of trying to finish off what should be a fairly straight forward retrofit - PLA 2.0.
I've installed the new side sensors front and rear, routed the new wiring and installed the new PLA module.
I can't for the life of me however get the new front side sensors to work...rears seem OK in that they don't log any faults but I can't actually test them yet.

Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue or otherwise any ideas as I'm now at a bit of a dead end. :banghead:

I have routed new power, ground and signal wires to bypass the existing and new harnesses.
Confirmed power at the connectors with a multimeter.
If I disconnect the new front side sensors I get exactly the same open/short to ground error as if they are plugged in.
If I connect the side front sensor pins to other working sensors, I still have open/short to ground on side front sensors.
I have tested one of the new sensors in the place of an existing front sensor, and it looks like it works fine.
The new sensors are part number 1T0919297A.
I have tried software upgrading the PLA module to 1K8919475E however got the same sensor errors.
I've quadruple checked the pinouts (front side assist sensors are connected to T18/2 and T18/13)

At this point the only thing I haven't tried is replacing the PLA module as the only other one I have is the older 8 channel PDC module.

Autoscan below, its not fully configured for park assist in terms of coding and adaptation of ABS, steering rack etc but I am just trying to get the sensors working firstly for OPS.

You cannot have the sensors or even wiring connected at all if you don't have suitable PLA module. Either you don't have the wiring at all or you have the wiring + sensors + correct PLA module available.

Your 8ch OPS module does not support PLA side sensors. That is also the reason why you don't see any problems from the rear sensors because your OPS module does not even know they exist. It needs a newer PLA2.0 module minimum for it to even register the new rear side sensors.

Why have you coded cross traffic alert to the system when you don't have it? You need blind spot radars for that.

I have a PLA 2.0 module.
It is a Golf 7 module cross-flashed with Passat software:

I'm not concerned about the cross-traffic error I have not fully coded or set adaptations for PLA yet as I firstly need to have all 12 sensors properly functioning.

Sorry did not get that.

Ok then, you have the PDC and PLA buttons also installed? I think those were also required.

Do you have the wiring diagrams for the sensors?

Yes, I have the B7 centre console including the PLA and PDC buttons.
The buttons work in sense that they engage the relevant functions, but they error out.

I have checked over the wiring diagrams many many times to try and find a problem with my pinouts but I'm sure they are correct.
I am using an adapter harness to go from the car's 3x connectors for PDC to the 2x (T18 and T26) required for the 5Q0 PLA module.
However I have bypassed this adapter harness for the front side park assist sensors (they connect directly into the PLA module) but still I have the same issue.

I have ordered a new PLA module as it's the only way I could prove that the module itself is not faulty.

I have experienced the same thing on two cars when used upgrading kits from Ali Express.
Changed only the two longer front side sensors to used original sensor then everything worked.
First time I also ordered an new PLA unit but it did not help.

I had similar experiences with Aliexpress PLA kit. In my case the PLA button was incorrectly wired.

I used as it is stated in the spare part catalogue 1T0919297A.
That sensor is very common on Audi and can be found on Ebay.
You can find new ones on Ebay also but I recommend used original sensors. The new on Ebay can be China clone also.

My new PLA module arrived and as suspected it did not resolve the issue.
Awaiting arrival of some new sensors from Germany which should wrap this up hopefully.

So my new sensors finally arrived from Germany.
They are new sensors with the correct part number 1t0919297A, made by Electronicx.

Unfortunately they result in the same faults

Does anyone have ready access to some of these sensors from a wreck and would be willing to send them to me in Australia?

I actually think the parts that I got with the PLA kit were second hand parts though maybe that isn't the answer...

In order to upgrade into a 12k pla 2.0 you’ll probably need several steps to be coded, and also some hw exchanged. E.g. wheel sensors (which needs to be coded as well)

Thanks, the issue isn't with the coding, its with the side front assist sensors.
I have already replaced my rear wheel speed sensors for B7 version and coded the ABS etc.
Without these sensors working, of course PLA will not work. I am just trying to get all 12 sensors working for OPS, then it will take 5mins to finish the coding for PLA.

Ok. Some brainstorming hints, then

Frontal sensors cabling sequence is akward. (See picture of SSP 389)

—-> double check it
Have you connected them in the right CAN bus? There are several can buses in modern cars.
if any sensor or correspondent speaker is not working, the system won’t work and will beep.
For the lateral system to work I have struggled a lot as indicated in the previous link I’ve sent. (Klemme 15 issue).

Please provide feedback so I can further think about your issue.

Yes the side park assist sensors are connected to the 1k8 PLA module at pins T18/2 and T18/13.
I have installed new wires which go direct from the sensors to the PLA module, bypassing all harnesses and connectors.
They still have the same fault.
I have replaced the PLA module with a new one - same fault.
I have replaced the sensors with new ones from Germany - same fault.

So I am either missing something really simple (a very high possibility) or these sensors that I have are just not compatible with the 1k8919475D PLA control module...

try instead: 01 31061051 (I have the same HW / SW module, and with it works perfectly)

it might be the SW looking for some mismatching condition?

I have tried many many different coding strings (and I just tried your suggestion just in case) however I always have the same open/short to ground error against the only 2 sensors which are different to all the others - namely the 2 front side park assist sensors.

Easy easy, step by step, consequently you will trace and solve the mistake/error.
1st condition to resolve this kind of unresolvable concerns is to doubt of everything. Even things we have checked 6x times!
Believe me. I work with this kind of issues for real in gas turbines.
So,
If you have swapped the module, and have swapped the two sensors for two new ones (or the ones which are working from rear bumper temporarily), then the only possible error source is the cabling. Usually when you pull the looms, some insulation is damaged-> ground > error.
The other (and typical by the way) is a loose connection. Jiggle around in order to see if the error repeates or it clears with the new module and new sensors. Then you can start going back and replace the only part that is not working.
Who has prepared the T18 connector? What about the pins 2 and 13 are these two healthy enough ?

I have tried swapping the sensors for working sensors from the front bumper but same fault.
I got the kit with complete wiring harness from Ali express.
When it didn't work I used brand new wire which I crimped on new terminals and ran direct from the module connector to the sensors connectors.
I checked for continuity with a multimeter.
The only other conclusion I can come to is the side sensors are not compatible with the pla controller.
The side sensors work fine as front sensors so they are not faulty either

Even that sounds implausible, because you’ve said you have tried with a spare module.
I have the same hardware. What I can say, is that module is for 12k. It’s probably wrong parametrized? What about the new module you have tried? I wouldn’t give up. For sure it’s an easy and stupid small little detail we are not considering.
