Hello guys,

I got my car from middle east and today it just reached home to Europe, I tried to get the map download from VW website, put the uSD in the car and got a notification that there is a Map update available, then I went to Navigation and Info, then tried to update from SD Card but unfortunately I got an error that there is no map to be updated.

Any idea how I can put the Europe maps and functionality on my car ?

Do I need to take it to the dealer here or it can be done from VCDS ?

Thanks In advance.

^^^^ It's all a bit-of-a-guess without posting an auto-scan, but assuming that a VW Tiguan 2017 SEL in the Middle East is built on MQB platform, the region part of SATNAV is determined by the software switches in Byte 3 of the module @ address hex5F.

Again as a guess, because the forum is auto-scan blind, I assume that your (MEast) car has a code value for Byte 3 = hex 0C (Binary, 00001100) - the code for Europe should be hex 01 (Binary 00000001)

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Sorry for the lack of scan, I put the scan for 5F below.

Indeed was 0C the config, I did change it to 01, then when I inserted the SD card it says that there is an update available but after a while I get same message that there is no available update . If I change the settings and then I reset the unit then once it loads the navigation it simply says that there is no available database and it locks all the menus for that so I cannot even select the info to be able to do the update from SD card. if I change but I don't restart the unit, it seems that the config is still on 0C.

Is there a way to force the update from SD card somehow ? to override the Middle East map ? as I guess that is the issue there.

Thanks.

^^^ hmm..... we are now quickly moving beyond my pay-scale (my knowledge-base).

I have read numerous posts on multiple forums about the problems related with folk that have sought to change the region setting. SATNAV is SWAP. However, I'm not certain whether the authorization key is specific to a particular region.

But, there is likely someone here that may provide further intelligence on this matter - I hope

Don

PS: long-shot (total guess) - perhaps IDE00768-Country identification: country of sale in hex 5F module is implicated? Not sure

EDIT: One thing, because you mentioned SD card. When I do update of card contents, I'm just downloading bundle from VW website and replacing contents of SD card.

I'm not selecting any option to "find updates". But it's for Discover Media, which is using SD card as a nav data storage.

You didn't described what Navigation version you have.

Well I did saw an option for SWAP in VCDS as long as I recall but it was asking some sort of code min 3 digits for the SWAP procedure and there was no details about it.

As for the Country Identification I did added DE and on adaptation Europe, but once I save and restart the unit I get an error that the map is not available at all and nothing works so I have to go back to the old option and restart the unit just to have the system functional .

I guess I will have to pay a visit to the local dealer an see if there is an option to change this and have the Europe maps or in the worst case send it back to Middle East and get a new one here and done. To much headache with this anyway.

thanks.

Well guys I'm out of resources here, and for me honestly this is little bit dumb , Apparently I went to VW Dealer in Romania and they told me that they have no idea how to do that, then I ended up contacting VW directly and eventually the y forwarded me back to the main dealer that give me a nice answer that sounds like "For the VIN supplied there is no accessory solution for maps and for order you can get only maps from ASIA" .

I honestly don't understand how a software cannot be available for another region, in the end it is just a region change and a map update.

I'm starting to regret that I get this car and starting to hate those stupid politics, I cannot even set apparently the country speed limits and keep on getting warnings on the wrong limits.

Good job VW.

Any luck from the forum side to get this thing sorted out ? or I guess I will have to find another Unit from the local market and recode it here. but I will end up using the phone and app connect as I will not waste another 2, 3 K just to have some stupid maps and local warnings.

Thanks in advance and apologies for the language but this complete ignorance from the manufacturer is completely messed up.

Only way is to go hacked.

Find someone who can disable the security features of the system and load any map.
I've been using this service for a while. - http://audi-mib.bg/

Thanks,

I'll give it a try, seeing other things that can be activated on the car with them so who knows , maybe it works .
