Recoding TCM T3 Touareg TDI

I was advised to post my own thread about recoding the transmission control modules for the late model Touareg's. This is a big question amongst the enthusiasts out there to able to recode their module to a eurospec/cayenne tune or possibly swap modules from older years and then recode those to work. What exactly is different about a "eurospec/cayenne tune"?

As a general rule, components in modern cars that affect emissions, which the TCU most certainly does, will not accept codings for markets where the emissions specs are different.

The VW Tdi fix noticeably reduced the performance and capabilities of the transmission on the 7P Touaregs. Having the ability to recode the transmission to regain hill decent control, display which gear on HUD, modify shift points to higher in the rpm, engine braking, all which seems to be present of euro models / or possibly cayenne’s. It would be nice if someone had an auto scan from a European 15+ MY Touareg or Cayenne. As I said in the other thread, it seems the 14+ models have a different rev Module that requires long coding rather than short codes. I may opt to try and swap for a early 7P module and see if it’ll take the European soft coding. Thoughts on swapping modules? I can get one for $150 shipped

So you're trying to un-do the TDI "fix", at least the portion that was applied to the TCU?

FWIW, my wife and I have a 2015 T'reg TDI. It has not been "fixed", nor do I intended to I allow to to be "fixed". I checked the TCU's coding. It is identical to yours.

There are folks out there who claim to be able to re-flash these TCUs to a pre-fix state, but Ross-Tech will not touch undoing any part of this fix due to potential legal ramifications.

If thats the route you'd like to go, then you can take that same line of thought and apply it to about 99% of all the things that are possible within VCDS. Hell, having a "tweaks" forum section in of itself could have legal ramifications. I dont think thats the appropriate response to my question. However, after meeting you in person when i ATTEMPTED to buy my vagcom, it doesnt surprise me.

Most "tweaks" that one can do with VCDS have absolutely nothing to do with emissions, and they certainly aren't undoing a parts of a "fix" for things where billions of dollars in fines are involved and for which several people are now rotting in a federal prison.

I too am interested in possible TCU modifications since my '16 Q5 was "fixed." I accept that it will now gulp DEF and behave differently during warm-up. That, I can live with. However, the lurching transmission and delayed accelerator response are deal-breakers long-term. More than unpleasant, it renders the car dangerous in some situations. Truly, it feels like, put the pedal down and wait 2 seconds for the electrons to wake up.

I've ordered a used Touareg TCM, so we'll see what that brings. There are other reports on the InterWeb of that being successful.

Dumb new guy here doing research...

Are these TCM some what interchange from Audi to Vw to Porsche? Or is more just people talking bout pulling the mapping/program off of one and trying to lay it onto another? I figured the way Porsche does stuff is not the way VAG does even knowing the hardware is the same. Think VCDS vs Durametric...same stuff but different. Very curious.

Not sure. I would consider that "uncharted territory", at least for me. Also, you have a 7L-chassis Touareg, not the newer 7P that's previously been discussed in this thread. I'll tell you this much: Transmission programming is not just specific to the exact model and engine, but even to the sales market (NAR vs. ROW).

thx. We are shopping for a T3 so trying to sort the post fix solutions. It’s amazing the amount of info out there but it all doesn’t connect and as you state we know VAG can have 10 sub versions in the same run. So not sure what all this talk about Audi and P-Car info is...I would suspect nothing is interchangeable as two mismatched modules from the same year VAG might now work.
