2010 Jetta tdi gone haywire after cooling fan replacement

Took of front clip to change passenger side cooling fan (from rock auto) and when i put it back together no start. After forever cranking it came alive but not without throwing all sorts of codes and erratic running. The common rail pressure is all over the place as well. I first thought it had something to do with the fuel system or fan replacement but I am now more inclined to think there is a major power issue somewhere. Good battery, good cranking speed, clean terminals, checked all the grounds engine bay, disconnected the new fan, not sure where to look now.
Perhaps inside dash, key switch, grounds? Can someone throw out some pointers?

Pull out fuel filter and see do you have any rust, or metal shaving in it .
This very common problem with CR engines.

Hi krazyk,
I am not sure what you mean by " Took of front clip to change passenger side cooling fan", I presume you are talking about the connector. If the non start happened immediately after the fan work I would be revisiting the area you were working, check for disturbed connectors, pins pulled out of connectors, corroded wires broken with the stress of moving.
What is your rail pressure?

took off front bumper headlights and all to drop radiators forward, i did revisit all that and unplugged the new cooling fan to make sure it wasn't causing havoc. The commonrail pressure is all over the place and so is the regulator, I even lose connection doing a log. However i might be onto something, I bought this car used a year ago and just found a gps tracker under the steering column

So this tracker /immo was tied into the ignition switch wiring, one wire fell off barely pulling on it, copper somewhat corroded, some insulation appears discolored suggesting heat/bad connections. Removed all of it, but still having same problems. Should i be suspecting the ignition switch? Any way i can test it? Read before they can cause all sorts of electronic issues.

Did you do any other work at the same time, service/fuel filter? I would be concentrating on the fuel system, start with the low pressure, check pressure etc and work through to the high pressure regulation, check the voltages on the FP regulator and FP sensor, preferably with an oscilloscope.

have fuel on low pressure, sorry don't have oscilloscope, am limited on tools. No didn't touch anything on the fuel side of things. The car will eventually start after long cranking and sometimes even runs with no engine light and idles normal for several minutes only top go back to bonkers mode cutting out, stalling, limited revs, glow light and engine light flashing. That's why i am more inclined to think i have a power/ ground issue. Also looks like vcds reports intermittent power /module problems. Unfortunately i am no pro with vcds either I have a video of it running but not sure where i can post it.

Did you isolate the components in fault with load light and monitor terminals during conditions, hey did you tighten the battery terminals and recheck your work for FOD?

Well after i kicked the damn thing into the corner for a while i brought it back out. The behavior of this thing wasn't getting any better, scans were problematic to do as it kept dropping connections. However after a lot of ff'in around with fusebox , battery, testing leads i've come to the conclusion the BCM/electric module is perhaps the cause of all of this. Did i mention i also lost power to top part fuse panel in the car, lost the horn also. gotta jump that stuff to make things light up. So the question is 1) can I use a used bcm and code with vcds? 2) what is the important part to know for a matching bcm? the part numbers on these change all the time it seems, is it just software number S0019 that's important? Then there is upgraded software numbers that i think are for the same car config like S2019 and S3019

Well i'll answer my own question, went and found a different bcm, software was a match but partnumber wasn't. It was plug and play deal, matched old coding and all good
