2010 Audi Q5 3.2 (CALB) noise under 1-3 valve cover & #3 misfire

I am trying to figure out what the noise is that sounds like a marble rolling around near the #3 cylinder of my 2010 Audi Q5 with the 3.2 (CALB) engine. I also have a misfire on #3 that I have not been able to figure out. I have cleaned the intake valves (walnut blasting) and I have replaced the #3 fuel injector. I have also switched the coil packs around and the problem stays with the #3 cylinder. I have removed the valve cover and looked at the valve train and I have not seen anything that is out of place or broken from what I can tell.

I should also add that I have performed a running compression check and Cyl #2 pumped up to 80 psi and Cyl #3 was from 70-75 psi.

Well, if cilinder 3 makes a noise, throws a DTC, the valve train and injector of that cilinder are okay and a compression test shows a (although small) difference:

It might actually be cylinder 3.

Visual check with a cam through the spark plug hole?

Well I have done a bit more to look into this issue. I removed the valve cover and started the engine so I could look around. See the below video.

My running compression check results are Cyl #2 pumped up to 80 psi and Cyl #3 was from 70-75 psi.

I also checked the voltage to the #3 coil pack and pin # 1 -> 2 was 12.26VDC and pin # 1 -> 4 was 12.26VDC as well. I then checked for continuity between pin #3 at the coil pack and pin 8 at the connector and it was good and showed .3 to .4 ohms of resistance (I thin the spec is 0.5 +/-0.3). I am not sure on the next steps for trouble shooting the misfire. I was thinking of checking the voltage at the injector but that requires taking off the intake manifold again. Not the end of the world just trying to limit the on and off of the intake as it is plastic and has plastic threads. Can VCDS tell me if the injector is working properly?

Maybe carbon holding an intake valve open or a burned/cracked valve seat/valve face interference angle.

When I cleaned the intake valves they all held solvent when closed so I think the valve seat to valve is good.

I took the Q5 to an independent audi/vw shop yesterday morning and told them everything that I have done and they listened to the car and they said it sounds like the upper timing chain has slop in it. They recommended replacing both of the upper tensioners. I guess my next step is to take of the upper chain covers and take a look.

Isn't car is a ULEV2 and carries a warranty on this for 10-120K & in some cases 15/150K if related to additional items which induced a related failure?

Yes, Audi of America (AoA) covers the issue if there is a code thrown for the secondary air ports but those codes have to be thrown for AoA to pay the dealer for the cleaning. I have not had those codes thrown yet.

Someone else on one of the forums said that it looked like I had a cam lobe that went flat. I was able to measure that today and I don't think that is the case. From what I can tell the intake cam has two profiles for the lower RPM circuit, one for the fwd valve and one for the aft valve of each cylinder. Here are my results for each lobes lift:

Cyl #1 Fwd - .043" Aft - .127"
Cyl #2 Fwd - .044" Aft - .128"
Cyl #3 Fwd - .044" Aft - .128"
Cyl #4 Fwd - .044" Aft - .126"

I was also able to get the timing chain cover off and look at the tensioner and from what I can tell it looks good and none of the plastic wear pads showed excessive wear. I am going to pull the cams this week and take a look at the rockers and valves for any issues. This will also give me the opportunity to reseal the guide frame from leaking oil into the spark plug holes.

Apologies for necroing this thread but I felt like posting here was better than starting a new thread, and hopefully someone will find this post and it will help them. I found another post by the OP at the audizine forum where they resolved their issue by replacing one of the roller rockers which had worn out.
I for the last few weeks had been chasing a very intermittent misfire on a single cylinder in a 2009 audi a5 manual with a 3.2 CALB engine. I replaced coils, plugs, media blasted the carbon deposits, and replaced that bank of injectors with no change to the misfire. There was no noise from the top end, compression was perfect, and everything scoped out correctly. After finding op's posts I used a borescope to look at the rocker and saw the #6 aft rocker had play from worn rollers. The rocker was replaced with an updated version and the car runs perfectly now.

122k customer swears there weren't any money shifts and i'm inclined to believe him. Rocker we replaced it with had a different design with more rollers smaller in diameter and a beefier outer roller wheel. The image is upsidown.
