Hallo members,

I need your help.

I have VW Phaeton 2006 , when I bought it consumer battery was drain so I bought a new one, but battery is still extremly draining. I cant find in VCDS battery replacement procedure option, so probably is not needed. On car I can not connect with vcds to the radio, navigation and telephone. On display radio is working but sound I cant hear....When I want to set volume its show that DSP access to sound system temporarily not possible...When I connect to the Central electric 09 , and I want to see MVB, VCDS has been freeze or write me error that they are soo much errors, and I cant see any MVB..

Thank You so much for your help! And sorry for my english. :)

I have one idea..that CAN gateway is defective. I think that gateway is integratted in dashboard, so need replace dashboard and then adapt keys?

BTW: when is car locked, on battery is drain between 1-3 Ampers ... Its pretty much

Thanks.

Why not first try popping fuses one at a time and measuring the current taken by the components fed by that fuse by bridging the contacts using a multimeter, then use a WD to isolate what components are supplied by the fuse with the current drain?

Better than the hassle of replacing the instruments - and potentially finding the problem still exists

So, After remove fuse nr. 17 - Radio , current drain is 0,45A. Then after remove fuse nr. 33- navigation current drain is 0,03A finally. So it is possible to defective CAN gateway right?

Thanks!

I would say try and carry out systematic fault finding/ closed circuit drain tests and solve the problem by elimination than substituting parts.
Lock the car for about 2 hours and use multimeter to check which fuses are actively taking current. Use the WD to check which circuits are related and consumers hooked to such circuits This gives you an idea where the source of drain could be. I think there is a TPI on this issue as well.

Can you explain why? ...I dont think so

Trace how current is sent to the radio and what is required for wake or sleep period.

It's evident in the WD isn't it or maybe you don't think so, so why even read it and perform the shotgun approach & roll the diagnostic dice on statistics versus verifying it, huh?

So why it's not turning sleep mode just to radio and Navi? If will be faulty ign switch, all interior components will stay in wake mode I think.
and it is impossible to connect via vcds to radio and Navi unit..faulty ign switch? Still don't think so.

And secondly, in autoscan you can see fault about Can databus.

Whatever modules are powered by fuse 33 should be investigated first before condemning the CAN gateway.

I agree with you, but I have no any usefull WD...

Says the opposition response & dismissing a possibility without having the RTFB or reviewing a WD.........you are right I shouldn't of shared.

Yawn...........
http://www.volkspage.net/technik/ssp/ssp/SSP_272_d1.pdf

The control unit for battery monitoring is-activated by the control unit for entry and start authorization (J 518) with the signals 'Ignition key in the ignition lock' (Key-In) 'Ignition switched on'(Terminal 15) and the start signal (Terminal 50).

The radio/sat nav uses messages on the Infotainment CAN bus to tell it to turn on/off, it does NOT have an ignition feed only permanent power - so IMHO it's nothing to do with the ignition switch.

The faulty Infotainment CAN bus message can be caused by ANY device on the Infotainment CAN bus being faulty - not just the CAN Gateway. This is why you need a WD to see what devices are connected to the Infotainment CAN bus and then disconnect them ONE AT A TIME until the fault goes away.

Fault find - do not assume :thanks:

That WD (which doesn't show the complete Infotainment CAN bus BTW) shows that the |Infotainment CAN bus connects to many units, at least:
J526
J401
J523
J525
J412
J415
... and possibly others on other pages of the WD - so you need to check all pages of the WD that the Infotainment CAN bus is shown on.

First I would disconnect the radio/sat nav and see if the other units on the Infotainment CAN bus communicate OK.

If that fails then what you need to do is disconnect one of those units at a time and see when the radio/sat nav starts communicating again.

It's not rocket science - eliminate one possible cause of the fault at a time until you find the root cause.

Hi all,

We have here highly similar issue with 2008 phaeton. Radio/nav/phone/digital sound package etc. Features on infotainment CAN bus are operating randomly. I suppose that some of those CAN modules is broken.

So real question is how do I physically locate all the modules? I am not familiar with phaeton at all 😅

Thank you very much!
