For 2018 North American Tiguans VW has released a TSB that updates the ECU and TCU programming to address several different issues. It appears that VCDS does not know what label file to use for the new ECU firmware version (no problem with the transmission controller update). Below is the significant parts of the autoscans before and after the programming update. (my complete autoscans are already posted here in several places, I can post it again if it matters)

Before the TSB updated the controller programming:

Code:
Address 01: Engine (J623-DGUA) Labels:. 06L-907-115-V1.clb

   ROD: EV_TCMAQ450031_VW37.rod
   VCID: 3228DD05655DA4DF5F-8066

After TSB updated controller programming:

Code:
Address 01: Engine (J623-DGUA) Labels: None
   Part No SW: 5NA 907 115 K HW: 06L 907 309 B

Readiness: 0000 0000

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 02: Auto Trans (J217) Labels: 09G-927-749-V2.clb
   Part No SW: 09G 927 158 DS HW: 09G 927 158
   Component: AISIN AQ8 206 3550
   Coding: 0002000100000000000000000000000000000000
   Shop #: WSC 00066 790 00443
   ASAM Dataset: EV_TCMAQ450031 001001
   ROD: EV_TCMAQ450031_VW37.rod
   VCID: 075E5CD1BE5FF177E6-8052

No fault code found.

My guess is that it would use the same label file as the previous version, but apparently VCDS does not know this, so I thought I would point it out.

Have Fun!

Don

Yeah, I think that's just a one-line redirect. I've sent an e-mail to Dana with a link to this thread to get it in her queue.

Now the real question is: What are the issues this update is intended to address and do you find its effects positive?

We have this:

Code:

Same ECU software you had, but newer TCU software.

The TSB says it is to address a number of issues that can cause erroneous fault codes to be stored. It includes a list of fault codes that can occur when there is really no problem.
However, the effects are overwhelmingly positive. In 2018 Tiguans (the first B-cycle engine in North America) many complained about an unpredictable hesitation when accelerating from a stop. Sometimes it felt like a simple hesitation and sometime it felt like the transmission didn't know what gear to be in. When 2018 owners got a 2019 loaner during service, they noticed a big difference in response to the gas pedal. This TSB basically makes the 2018 ECU/TCU perform like the 2019+ versions. It involves replacing a hose, a filter and a piece of air duct, plus the ECU/TCU programming update. For more info, here's a whole thread about the issue and the hassles with getting some VW dealerships to perform it under warranty. Many people have had to pull off one (or more) coil packs to generate misfire fault codes.:D

Thanks guys. I added this line to the redir:

REDIRECT,06L-907-115-V1.CLB,5NA-907-115-K ; DGUA (BW)

That should make it to the next VCDS update. In the meanwhile I found the 2054615/1 | 7/1/2019 version linked here and it looks like all 5NA 907 115 A units are flashed to 5NA 907 115 K so our redirect will cover all of them (providing VW doesn't change the part number again in the future).

I got two updates last week, one for the TCU and one for the discover pro 9.2 in my Tiguan AD1. I got the TSB’s from the dealer, and ill check to see if the TCU SW number is the same or similar after the ipdate (DQ500) and share what the dutch importer has to say about it.

Yours has a totally different drivetrain than the NAR one being discussed here. The NAR one (Hecho en Mexico) is only available with the Budack Cycle 2.0 TFSI and Aisin AQ8 conventional automatic. No other drivetrain is offered here, although it is available with a choice between FWD and AWD.

Wow, missed that info by a mile. Well, ill post the changes as far as mentioned in my own topic then. :)

On a sidenote, a conventional automatic on a tranverse mounted engine? How many gears does it have?

The Aisin AQ8 is a Japanese made 8 speed slushbox, and it seems to work reasonably well (so far). If you want to know how they squeeze 8 gears in there, you will probably have to ask Google.

Have Fun!
