Whats the oil pressure at idle for a 2.0 engine?

Hi to all, I have a 2009 Passat, 2.0 TSI engine.

I started to troubleshoot the low oil pressure light and I connected a mechanical oil pressure gauge; engine cold start I have 40 psi and then starts to gradually go down and remains steady at 12 psi (after 15 minutes). If I increase the RPMs to 2000 the pressure goes up to 40-45 psi.

This last number is consistent with the manual, however, I couldn't find a value for the pressure at idle.

Anybody knows this or flat out 12 psi is too low for the engine?

I don't have a spec handy, but 12 psi at idle with the oil hot strikes me as OK / adequate.

UPDATE.

I manage to install a "T" with the switch and a mechanical pressure gauge attached. After aprox. 20 min the the warning light came on, I stop, open the hood and the pressure is CERO. Theres no weird sounds from the engine and it actually runs smooth. My questions are:

1.- Can it be that a simple thing like an STP oil filter be causing this?

2.- If I need to change the oil pump, do I have to remove the engine?

At this point I'm considering selling the car as is if I need to remove the engine, but I'm hoping for a any suggestion that I'm missing to troubleshoot this issue.

Well erWin also says that I need a $200 equipment to test a $15 part.

I got the oil pump out; does anybody rebuild them or is pretty much recycle can and buy a new one? a machine shop can rebuild it?

I would just throw a new pump in since there not that expensive and you have it out. But also pumps create flow, not pressure, its the restriction of flow/ restrictions/ tolerances technically that create the pressure. Side note, from a SSP there are if im not mistaken 2 or 3 different oil pumps for the tsi engines, vw to audi and maybe it was 2 for audi depending on year and engine code. Im interested in the outcome of this since oil pressure problems are becoming more apparent in these engines in all sorts of ways. A lot of times ive heard it'll come on when leaving or coming to a stop for a second and go away but also many other ways which is difficult to pinpoint, very intermittently. If anyone else has something to add on this, the balance shafts have little oil screens on them that clog up and can cause the light and or just lock the engine. The exhaust one has a plastic sleeve around it that can start breaking apart and block the oil screen also. The only real way to check the bearing play on them is to remove the lower timing cover and chains and physically check the play by hand, to check the oil screens you'd really have to remove them. (open to input) That being said these engines are very sensitive to oil pressure changes and the sensor picks it up, audi more so since it uses 2 sensors in the same spot as vw which has 1 on the gen 2 or 1 however technical you want to get. Also having so many little passages, screens, ports, seals, valves that can cause it, tracking it down can be difficult. I'm all ears to every oil pressure related thread with symptoms and solutions people find. Every piece of knowledge on this topic is worth knowing.

Well I finally got to install the new oil pump and took the car for a test drive, same problem: almost 60 psi of pressure at cold, CERO after 5 miles.

It's disappointing but it is what it is, not putting any more money in the car, will sell as is.

Did you complain to NHTSA yet?

Why or where are you losing the oil PSI in the engine?

Don't you realize that safety campaigns are for 15/150K even if self imposed?

Why: that's what I'm asking help in this forum.

Where: the "Low Pressure Light" came on, after troubleshooting decided to put a new oil pump; didn't fix the problem.

How about inspecting the adjuster for cam & bridge for damage as a result from inadequate useful life failure & possible FOD?

Did you change filter and inspect bypass or regulation for proper function?

Does it have another name? I search on the Manual for "cam bridge", "camshaft bridge", "camshaft bracket", "adjuster" with no results.
