VW Amarok 2012 Halogen to Bi-Xenon with LED DRL retrofit coding issue

Hi Folks!

I have been tasked with facelifting a UK 2012 Amarok with the newer Bi-Xenon headlights with LED DRLs.

I have replaced the BCM from 6R7 937 087 H to 7H0 937 090 D and added the wires from the T10 headlight plug to the T73 BCM plugs and replaced the light switch to 6R0 941 531 G.

I have got all function apart from side lights, DRLs and main beam flash when lights are in the off position, however, I can hear the shutters moving when the stalk is pulled. Main beam works fine with the light switch in the dipped beam position...

There were loads of differing guides on what is needed to get the lights fully working but most were for left hand drive and lower spec models so for example where it was saying to add in new power wires from the fuse box to the BCM, the fuse locations were already occupied? I also have VCP to hand if needed.

i have done amarok bi xenon led upgrade and can't recall but i think that one earth wire was missing check if you have brown wire on pins 5 & 7 if missing splice from other wire, maybe i'm imagining things, it was long ago, anyway check that and for coding:
byte 11 bit 0 set to 1 activate bi xenon (high beam shutter)
byte 12 bit 0 LED DRL to ON
byte 18 set to 67 or 65 if using LED license plate lights
byte 22 bit 4 set to 1 to enable LED DRL module

He's talking about the connector on the headlight. And for the high beams, do the coding as suggested.

All coding is as posted above when checked but byte 12 bit 0 is labelled as “Parking Lights ON with “Terminal 15 ON”” it is ticked.

Checked the headlight plug, pin 5 has a brown present but pin 7 was empty so I’ve added an earth to chassis. Still no life with either the side lights or DRLs...

Xenon shutters are working but the actual bulb doesn’t flash when the light switch is in the off or sidelight position? I can hear the shutter moving though, just no light! Dipped beam functions fine when light switch in the dipped beam position.

Also, we noticed that the remote central locking is no longer working?! Do the keys need to be re-added? The vehicle starts, just no central locking.

Since you swapped the BCM to a new one, then of course.

Those terminal 30 errors will require some wires from the fuse box to pins 63 (or something) iirc of the bcm
Check the wiring diagrams for this...

Thanks for the clarification, not had much dealings with the Amarok or T5/T6 so wasn't aware, I have since linked the remote and it is now working but it still refuses to lock from the remote or door lock switch or outer key lock. I can hear relays clicking when pressing the lock button on the remote but nothing happens. When I swap back the original BCM the locks work fine... Does the new BCM need wiring changes for the central loacking?

I have now cleared these error codes except the 01516 - Terminal 30; Left 011 - Open Circuit fault code. I added more wiring changes from the fuse box to the BCM which I later found out were needed but only one of those wiring changes had a terminal 30 live coming from it, maybe there is a fault elsewhere in the car?

This is from information I have found online from someone else that has successfully completed this retrofit.

Thanks iichel, I have now added the remote but still seem to have an issue with locking the truck, I can hear relays clicking (maybe inside the BCM?) when I press lock on the remote but nothing else happens.

I have also added the wiring you mentioned as follows:

However, only one of those fuse locations had permanent power when probed, the other didn't, maybe there is another fault in the car at a different location?

At the moment I am stumped. Still no LED DRLs or side lights working. Also, the main beam shutter is working but it won't "flash" with the lights turned off, I can just hear the shutter moving but no light.

The new fault code for the rear door is not related, it has magically appeared since my last visit and I noticed the door card for that door has been removed at some point in my absence so no idea whats happened there since I last went to the vehicle lol.

I guess I should just torch it and walk away ha ha.

I’ve reached the end of my skill set with this so will give the customer the option to revert it all back to standard or leave it 90% completed for him to take it elsewhere to finish off.

Tbh, it’s giving me mental health issues lol!

These positions on the BCM should be held by a +30 (permanent power) connection. I think they relate to your 01516 DTC and to the failing light functions as well.

Otherwise perhaps torching it would be a nice option indeed.
