I think he means this form when you save an autoscan or hit the Save button in the history data dialog:
6IhNZpE.png

delboy, it's much easier to go to your Logs folder and use the file called "Hist-19-8R0-907-468-P-20170303-1419.txt" (in my case), which is autogenerated as soon as the history read finishes. The Save function is more intended to append it to an autoscan for archiving purposes.

Yep thats the form, if you enter anything into that it is no longer readable in vcds toolbox.

That is a Autoscan file, like "Log-VIN etc.txt"
You make an Battery History file in VCDS like this:
[Applications]
[History Data]
Choose the controller you have [61] or [19]
[Start]
After reading [Cancel]

Then start VCDSToolbox
[B. History]
[Open Hist.file]
Choose the one VCDS just made and saved in \Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs
Like "Hist-61-4E0-910-181-C-20170228-1800.txt"

I have done that successfully before, but once it finishes reading the history it displays that box so I assumed it wanted relevant info inputted. I had just saved a new battery serial number and pulled the history data from the BEM and wanted to easily distinguish it in the log folder so made an entry into the said form and then its no longer readable by your program. Oddly the data is still in the txt file but laid out differently.

Even more strange when I copied the txt file and pasted into a reply box here it appeared to be laid out correctly ( Easy to read ) again.

Anyway I know how to work around it now, Just would be easier for others if the box wasn't given as a choice if its prevent the data from being read if you enter anything in the form.

Thanks

Any more A8 D3 logs? ...

Hi Eric;

I see that a couple of logs have appeared in the BEM History thread from UK guys with the last version of the A8 D3 BEM - H12 0550 - and you've seen mine with both H02 0240 and H11 0510.

So you've seen both old '0230 & 0240' and newest 'from 0510', but have you seen anything prior to 0230 or any in the 'dodgy' series 0340 - 0480?

As far as I can tell, you're the only one to have sent us A8 logs that are not 0550 :)
Katie's 4F is
Code:
   Part No SW: 4F0 910 181 E HW: 4F0 915 181 A
   Component: ENERGIEMANAGER H12 0490
But I don't know if the firmware revision is directly comparable between 4F and 4E modules. In any case, it's >480.

The A6 ECUs never had the same numerical level as the A8s, but 'A6 0490' is the equivalent of the 'A8 0510' level that was the fix for the published '10% Battery Level' problem in post 0240 A8 & A6 ECUs.

In summary there are 3 groups of A8/A6 BEM ECUs:
1) A8 levels up to 0240 - there was never an A6 equivalent. [And you suspect pre 0230 had a minimal or non-existent log].
2) A8 levels above 0240 and below 0510; A6 levels below 0490. These are the 'bad versions' that are owed a 'flash' to 0510/0490 for the '10% problem'.
3) A8 levels 0510 and above; A6 levels 0490 and above.

So we're waiting for a/some group 2 logs :)

BEM Date change issue ...

Eric;
I've found a bit of time to have a closer look at my A8 BEM logs in the last few days and I've found something that I don't understand. You might have noticed my weird 'Cluster date change' entries [see below]
Code:
Record 18/18: Date reprogramming in instrument cluster
15**
2004-03-25,08:00:00*2013-05-31,08:00:00**
2004-03-25,08:00:00*2013-05-31,08:00:00**
2013-05-30,21:00:00*2004-03-25,00:00:00**
2000-01-01,00:00:00*2013-02-01,11:00:00**
2000-01-01,00:00:00*2013-02-01,11:00:00**

None of those date change 'pairs' make any sense but I thought I'd clear the table by making simple date changes to the cluster via the MMI. So I just changed the car's year several times, saving each time, but when I reran the BEM history viewer, the five records remained the same!

So have you any idea what those datye change records mean and/or have you the ability to check what goes on on another vehicle?

Regards - Julian

The info we currently know of, is showed in VCDSToolbox.

  • First time stamp indicates the time in the dash panel insert prior to a reset
  • Second time stamp indicates the set time after a reset

What causes entry in the history should be:

  • Battery disconnected
  • Battery voltage very low

Correct. 0 hours under 12.2V and 0 hours under 11.5V though. You had 20+ hours each time under 12.5V on 1/22, 1/20 and 1/19. Probably many more times before then if it could remember more :)

A question regarding battery history. It is a very nice feature, yesterday I was playing a bit to see what is the battery history on my 4F A6, from 2007, which I bought year ago. But I am confused a little bit with this data... First 2 data rows (No-load voltage, and no-load current) shows in 3rd row (battery sequential number) that history is for Battery sequential number #2. But in 5th data row (Battery change history) there are data just for the first original factory battery from 2007. and says that this is battery sequential number #1. So did the previous owner changed the battery or not? I just want to know how old is the battery in my car... Battery in the trunk is OEM black Varta with BEM numbers on it...

It would probably be easier for others to if you would post the whole battery history log here to look at.

Maybe the Battery is changed (with new or used) after the car was produced in 2007.
But if so, it was not coded for battery change!
Look at the Battery, are there any date codes ?
Else it would be more than 10 years old!
From all History files I have, you have the record, in hours below 12.5, 12.2, 11.5 Volt

It is normal to show Battery sequential number #2 for record 1, 2.., even if it show #1 in Record 5.
I don't know why.

Thank you - that was the answer I was looking for. There are no date codes on batrery (or I can't recognize one) and it is original OEM battery (no reason not to be coded - if change done at dealership) - so it is most probably more then 10 yerars old... Low voltages are from playing with VCDS, aside from that battery does well, car starts with no problem, MMI indicator is on 100%, but it feels like it has not much capacity left, because it drains pretty fast (about 1 hour with ignition ON and indicator tells 50%, and quiescent stages DTC's are written)

So, it is probably time for new battery...

Something is wrong with this record... More hours (little bit more than 11 years) then the hours passed since the car has been produced (10,5 years)...

Look at the #8 data. Is from 2017-12-18 and has 75602 "hours" below marked Volts... The difference is around 21000 hours in 7 days... So it must be in seconds....

I don't think so, it is 5 hours for that date.
The 75602 is the total hours from new battery.
