    Bosch "Product Specialist" Recommends Ross-Tech!

So yesterday I found two O2 sensors and a fuel pressure regulator I bought long ago and had failed to label or save the packing slip for some stupid reason. I knew the FPR was for the A8 but doubted its authenticity due to Chinese writing all over the package and lack of a hologram or QR code, but they said it sounds OK. Anyway I googled the numbers on the O2 sensors 0 258 007 351 -311261 and -208232 and tried Ellis' website to no avail. (FYI both are 5-wire with the correct black plug attached)). So I called Bosch's Customer Service Line. Wow. Got a real live human quickly and she actually seemed to care, was American, and after taking all my info down the first rep said a "specialist" would research the three parts and call me back that day. This was around four CST, and they close at five. Fifteen minutes later a very knowledgeable and friendly guy called me and confirmed that of the numbers I had, one was a heated upstream sensor but the other did not match up to the either sensor on any of my cars ('98 Passat 1.8T 5-speed AEB, neither of my two 2004 A8L 4.2s, not even the E320 I used to have). After the call, I decided he must be mistaken - the darn things are identical and the only number he seemed to care about was "7351", which is on both...
We talked for a long time and I lamented the fact there is no fuel pressure sensor among the 1500 sensors on the BFM engined car. He said he had a Jetta 2.0 which he selected for its simplicity. I bragged that my cars have never been to the dealer or a shop for repairs (except once when I ended up finding the problem when my VWAG expert mechanic could not) and he said "oh, you Really need a Ross-Tech!" I said I had bought one and the Bentley manual the first week I had the car. He wasn't familiar with Bentley but boy does he love his VCDS (even though he calls it a "Ross-Tech")!
To have a Bosch employee speak so favorably about VCDS is a real "feather in the hat", I'd say. Sorry I didn't catch his name, but you guys have a friend (fan, even) at Bosch USA!

    -Tom
Still wondering if BFMs have all 4 O2 sensors heated - Bosch says no, seems I recall VCDS says yes.

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for the post. I can't answer about the BFM's and the O2 sensors but maybe others here can.

I wanted to mention and acknowledge that we have more than one fan at Bosch. Bosch employees have historically been pleased with the Ross-Tech VCDS (and originally VAG-COM). Our friends at Bosch work at their facilities all around the world. Having praise from Bosch really does help motivate us to do our best to keep our tool highly functional and inexpensive. After all, they too make fine diagnostic tools. They compare VCDS to their tools often in conversations we have with them.

Our goal is for the Ross-Tech VCDS to be the de facto diagnostic tool not only for professionals but for the very ones for which Uwe started Ross-Tech - the enthusiasts. We keep our eye focused on the enthusiasts. The professionals benefit from the help we receive from our enthusiast customers. Our enthusiast customers benefit from the knowledge the professionals bring to this forum solving problems on these ever more complicated cars. I don't think Uwe realized that he was building a community when he started this business. This is forum is the voice of that community. The community is strong, it promotes the VAG brands all over the world, it welcomes all who want the best for their VAG cars. Maybe some day VAG Corporate will see the value in what Uwe built through this community he started. Maybe some day, VAG will enable us to have better access to their information so our work could move to another level.

I'll get off my soap box. Just wanted to thank you for sharing your comments. They are very much appreciated.

Now let's get back to solving Tom's question... Does the BFM have four (4) O2 Sensors?

Thank you Matty, and (Bear the) Bruce... BTW you should monitor the D3 forum at Audiworld, in case you don't. There are numerous new members and they're all pretty much verbally crucified if they don't have a VCDS in the mail when they post their first question.

Matty, are they interchangeable side-to-side except for connector color - B1 and B2, (I ass-u-me so). I have swapped connectors for diagnostic purposes and so I realize the Dremel might be necessary to allow fitment.

One of the reasons we started our own forum 3 years ago is that it got to be impossible to try to keep up with all the others where VCDS was being used and discussed. By having our own, there's one known please where people can come and be sure they can interact with us directly.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
