hi.......i had a golf tdi 1.6 cr emissions updated at vw dealer.........since that update the advanced measuring values are grayed out.

i can no longer check how the dpf is or othere stuff.........id post a full scan of the car, but i dont have it.

previously the adv meas values were alright...i could access them no problem.....since update 4 weeks ago......i cant.

i have full registered version of hex can usb
any help or ideas?

when i check for fault codes.....this comes up.....

No ASAM data for ''EV_ECM16TDI02103L997557P'' (VW36)
No fault code found.


If i scroll above the advanced measuring blocks grayed out box i get this message


unable to find a ROD file for:
EV_ECM16TDI02103L997557P 003002 (VW36)

Please make sure you are using the latest version (including beta)

i know its not my cable or anything........because it works with no problem in my 2011 audi a5 tdi.


CAN ANYONE HELP ?

Correct, it's not your cable. It's the fact that VW installed brand-new software in your ECU for which VCDS doesn't have data yet.

Do you have an older scan so we can see what the previous ASAM identifier was?

i have both scans new and old.......but my rubbish laptop wont send emails....but as soon as it does il send both scans to you.

i dont know if its possible to have the car back to original running with previous software? car seemed quieter and smoother.

so no way of checking dpf now then?............or doing a regen if needed?

I'm not really surprised. There must have been some reason why VW "cheated" on the emissions.

Without being able to match some data to the ECU's ASAM identifier? No.

Soonest we can possibly help you is after we see both old and new scans so we have a reference for data that might be appropriate.

It's unfortunate that you didn't check for emissions fix problems before getting your software updated. Rattly engines and loss of torque between certain rev ranges seem to be the most common complaints after the software has been updated with the emissions fix. Most of the reported issues seem to be with the 2.0 engine although I did come across a few posts relating to the 1.6 engine as well.

I think you might struggle to get the original software reinstalled without a fight. Apparently VW won't allow dealers to do that so if you really do want it reverted back and they don't play ball then you might have to resort to a threat of legal action.

There is no legal requirement in the UK to have the emissions fix applied. It's a voluntary decision by the owner to book the car in and have the fix applied for free. I had my recall letter in December but have already decided that whenever my car needs to go in to the dealer for a service or any other work, I will be giving them explicit instructions not to go anywhere near the engine ECU software and that if they do then they will be in hot water. My car has been driving perfectly fine for the past 4 years so I see no point in taking any unnecessary risks with having a engine ECU software update applied.

One good thing that you have managed to prove though is that the engine ECU software version does actually change after the update so thanks for posting up the before and after scans. There have been rumours that the update was just done under the original software version meaning that it wouldn't be possible to find out if the emissions fix update had been applied. Your scans have now disproved that rumour so it's good to know that there is a visible change in the engine ECU software version after the update is done.

That is true but then it would mean the OP having to shell out 200-300 pounds of his/her own money to get their car running as they want it to again after VW ruined a car that doesn't actually belong to them with a so called emissions "fix".

i have both scans.......but i should of had an ecu reading taken by someone then put back on the car if i wasnt happy.........+ the fact i cant check dpf reading anymore is not good at all....not only that......but ,i find sometimes revs a bit high...on 1,000 rpm exactly.......then drops, and feel shake/vibrations in the car.........and who knows if the dpf is going get blocked quicker than before.........vw should put it back standard

I would like to see one of the major European car magazines do an independent before and after dyno test on the results of the fix but so far I've yet to see anyone come forward. It would also be good to find out what the actual difference in emissions are pre and post fix are (on the road under real driving conditions to circumvent any cheat algorithms). VW certainly seem a bit coy in releasing any figures of their own which can really only mean one thing.

I think you're lucky that your 2.0 TDI came through the update without any noticeable issues. It seems to be a bit of pot luck whether you end up with any post-fix issues or not and it's certainly not a gamble that I'm prepared to take. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and mine certainly isn't broken so it won't be getting "fixed". If there was a legal requirement to do it or some kind of government incentive for getting it done (or a penalty for not getting it done) from an emissions point of view then it might be a different story but until then I see no real reason to have the update applied, unless you really do want a clear conscience that your car is putting out the lowest possible emissions (assuming that the pre and post emissions really are that significant). But that may be at the expense of a shortened engine life, DPF issues, or something else due to the software changes that have been made. Whichever way you look at it, there are certainly going to be downsides to having the update applied otherwise there would have been absolutely no need for VW to implement a cheat algorithm in the first place.

Yes very very fella. Unfortunately i secumbed to the powers that be......but knowing what i have in stall for my CAYD Caddy 2k with AMD in the future im hoping i can get rid of the few quirks its picked up since. I use BP ultimate fuel........Shell Vpower is BUNK,Castrol Edge oil and genuine parts! So non of the corporate BS can be thrown my way.

Just a wee note if i may but its not soley the VAG group hiding this.........BMW Mercedes all of them are doing it yet they havent been fingered just yet. I believe FIAT have been just recently......im none too sure

I concur. Early on in the big emissions scandal thread (currently 175 posts) in the Bar, I said there's no way that VW is the only manufacturer engaged in "cycle beating".

I may prune some of the posts from this thread and graft them onto that one at some point in the near futures, 'cause it seems there more topical there than here in Product Support.
