First of I'd Like to say hi all :-). I’ve been in the vag scene for about 4 years. I started with a 2005 B6 A4 1.8t which i started vag coding a week after i bought it. Sadly it was totaled earlier this year and was replaced with a 2010 A5 2.0t. I have some experience with vcds but this new protocol UDS has got me..

Ok so my first question will relate to the problem i am experiencing.

Short background:
In February I bought the car, the day after i bought it the oil light came on--spoke with dealer--they did stage 1 oil consumption test. About 2 weeks later Audi authorized part 2. I mentioned to them that the car has a misfire at idle (no codes) and hesitation upon light throttle acceleration. When logging 'Misfire per 1000 rev' and 'misfire count per cylinder' they do trigger, all cylinders eventually have a misfire count but not enough to trigger CEL.

The dealer said they would look at it and came back and told me everything is fine and that all cars misfire. they just reset the misfire count. This is definitely not normal. The car shakes at idle as if a gust of wind blew across or a car driving by and the wind pushes the car. Simply put the car rocks side to side.

Decided to get APR stage 1 ecu flash to see if it would help however it didn't help. It actually made the problem more pronounced.

Things that I have tried to alleviate this issue:
1: replaced all 4 coil packs and plugs (even gapped at APR's request to 0.028)
2: Intake Carbon clean (tried induction clean method first, then pulled manifold off and did the process)
3: Cleaned MAF
4: pressure tested (no leaks)
5: Checked Diverter Valve-has updated valve
6: PCV system replaced
7: N75 Valve replaced
8: Injector cleaner added to gas (multiple times)
9: Due to TSB/Recall the Intake runner flap motor has been replaced.
10: Tried multiple different gas stations.

APR is requesting that I follow their guide to log and send them the files. I would do this but their website is for other protocol not uds. So I don't have mvb, just advanced measuring data.

I need to log the ecm so I can send these logs to APR but I am not sure on what to pick in terms of the Advanced measuring data..
I do know some of these but the other ones listed on APR’s site I cannot figure out. I know the MAF/engine speed/injector median/ignition timing/coolant temp/misfire count- but the rest listed on this site http://www.goapr.com/support/datalogging.php I can’t figure out.

Second question relates to basic settings.
If I try to do fuel pump (ign on Engine on) and click start, it says running-Aborted: Safety Reasons.
The only basic settings that has work is the Throttle Body adaptation..
Why do all others say aborted?

ive tried also load shift flaps with EOn:IOn says "not running" when i do this with EOff:IOn it says not running aborted: safety reasons.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.
Sean

It looks like you are a Verified VCDS User so I'll ask one of the guys to move this to the Car Repair Support sub-forum.

How about a compression check and cylinder leak down test before any logging.............?

Pull dipstick and smell for fuel mixed with engine oil.............?

If it is contaminated change oil and filter immediately and use SAE real oil not synthetic. 5w-40 and run for 500 miles.
Also add a small amount to each cylinder, and crank over sitting over night to help reseal rings.

Then drop it and change back to see if it improves.

Personally I have found HP/MPG gains and benefits using regular oil...........making better sealing of the rings and better chain life.
I change more frequently due to coke of turbo and run the engine at idle to cool down before latent heat turns oil to carbon.

It is advised and I make this recommendation on a daily it seems for stock and modified cars.
Especially Turbo Stratified charge engines.

Make an isolated lubricant system that is synthetic for the turbo charger with its own sump/pump/cooler and lines.
It is never a good idea in a performance vehicle to have the turbo chargers oil........... enter the sump............in my opinion, it is plain stupidity.

All you guys with V8's and your timing chains will come around at some point.

UDS can be kind of a pain in the butt since the list of what's available in each ECU isn't really standardized. You may need to go through each item and compare the values to what you expect. For example, in some engine controllers there are UDS advanced measuring values that you can select but that don't actually display any data like automatic transmission references in an engine controller in a manual transmission car. In other cases, seemingly obvious stuff like actual pressures may not be directly available, instead you may have to pick the specified value and the deviation and do some math. As for the Basic Settings that you tried, I would recommend that you do NOT try any of those unless you are following instructions from a factory repair manual or other reputable source. It's possible that one or more conditions were not met when you tried those procedures.

Decided to get APR stage 1 ecu flash to see if it would help however it didn't help. It actually made the problem more pronounced.
I always shake my head when somebody chips an engine that isn't running right to begin with.

This I agree with.

Make an isolated lubricant system that is synthetic for the turbo charger with its own sump/pump/cooler and lines.
But that strikes me as a bit drastic.

instead of telling me what irks you about what people do, how about you post relavant information. im sure you have seen my email i sent this morning, but incase you haven't ask who ever handles your support email.

sorry to come off as an ass but i am in no mood to do this. i am having problems with the dealer and AOA to look at the vehicle(even before flash date) and to have only owned the car for 4 months and to have such problems is well a little shitty to say the least. APR claims I need to contact ross-tech support to figure out the logging part, so i did.

as for the other post Jack, compression test came out fine and no excessive leak down, this was done about a month after having ring and piston replacement from Audi.

no fuel smell in oil but this could also lead to a leaking HPFP as well as worn rings as you stated.

Andy, there are so many options in the Advanced Measuring data that are just a bunch of letters, so i will try check what they provide.

and lastly when i tried to do a log, the rpm frequency seems to be in steps of ~500rpm.. i have it on turbo mode and still same issue. seems like that would really limit the function of being able to log.

Do the misfires at idle go away, get worse, or stay the same once the car is up to normal operating temp?

Do you have a more recent auto-scan? The date on the one posted is from February.

i will pull another scan today.

as for the misfire"rough idle" happens both when cold or warm. it is random when it starts to idle that way and sometimes it will just blip at idle and sometimes it will sit there and keep idling rough.

though at times its not even enough to blip the rpm needle, there has been a few instances that it will "tick" up and down, only with in maybe 100rpm of normal idle level.

the hesitation on the other hand gets worse when engine is warm. sometimes when cruising and im in that zone where the hesitation(2.5k-4k rpm) occurs(at part throttle, i can feel loss off power and a difference in exhaust sound. kind of sounds like waste gate opens for a second then closes.

on acceleration(wot) the car just surges in that zone and then again around 5k

If compression is good as stated............ I would be all over ground overlays trigger wires to ecu and power supply verified to and looking for vacuum/charge leaks or bad MAF causing that miss.

A noise filter and CAP should be considered to clean up power to coils and ecu.

You should try the oil just to see if it makes a difference. It would hurt the motor to change it anyway if misfires are present.

You could have carbon build up holding valves slightly off seats etc.

I agree with Uwe

It makes no sense ever to tune a car that isn't in proper order stock first.

But that strikes me as a bit drastic.

:o
It is...............
If you opened up the amount of engines I have with these conditions, you would get onboard to solve the problem..........kind of like an oil cooler or line rubbing through on a sub frame/rad support............

Chafe points or friction problems...............
It doesn't make sense or common sense.

Technology should be tested and embraced that worked!
It should be used not just remembered.........until the next best thing is ready.

Stratified charge ready for production with our fuel grades............my opinion.......... Nope!

If you are particular to want this then you will have your particulates to go with it. EU6 here we come

i did the carbon cleaning and pressure tested the intake system afterwards, no leaks that i could find. worked for like a day then went back to normal.

i will find the sheet that has the compression test and leakdown results this weekend as well

i am going to check the waste gate flap on the turbo this weekend(mine has not had a replacement turbo as per warranty extension). if this does show signs of failure, this would at least and hopefully solve the acceleration/cruising issues...

but i cant imagine it solving the idle issue..
