I don't have a Windows 10 system handy at the moment, so I'm not sure this will work exactly as described, but it does work in all previous versions:

    right-click the VCDS.EXE file
select Properties from the context menu
    click the Digital Signatures tab
    click/select the sha256 signature
    click the Details button

You should have something like this:

Does it say, "The digital signature OK" ?

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

I've only just put 16.8.4 update on and that works fine, now update is 17.1, that's fast or have I been outdated a long time?

Well, 16.8.x was released in August 2016, so maybe you were heavily outdated.

    Going by file dates here:

    16.8.0 was August.
    16.8.1 was early September.
    16.8.2 was late September.
    16.8.3 was October
    16.8.4 was end of November.

    17.1.0 was just yesterday.

Really weird. Had to install 17.1.2 release 5 times until I got it to run, because the .exe file did nothing than updating the desktop shortcut.
    Win 10.1 64 bit.
