Any chance your update server is currently down? I'm unable to update firmware or check for an update. just installed VCDS 18.9 downloaded from the website and it says there's a new firmware for the HEX-V2
Can't retrieve registration info as well

error message: Network Error! Unable to contact server

There was a server issue earlier today but it should be resolved now.

I received the unit a few days ago. I'm filled with disbelief about the time it took to order, ship and receive the shipment. The blink of an eye. I plugged it into my Phaeton, connected my phone through wi-fi as per the instruction and was busy wiping fault codes within mere minutes of unboxing. This is perhaps the best couple of hundred bucks spent on tools. I can't imagine what bank account draining bills a repair shop would have charged. This piece of equipment pays for itself within hours!

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to Team Phaeton: we demand to be taken seriously!

As a fellow Phaeton owner, feel free to @ (tag) me if you have questions about how to use VCDS to do something on your Phaeton.

Hello and thank you for your kind words! My Phaeton is definitely a work in progress. I bought it in January 2020 at a bit of a discount, knowing it had some issues. Although they're mostly w/ the electrics and sun roof drainage. The powertrain is solid, although I do plan to have it looked at by a specialist at some point in the future. It's an absolute joy to drive especially on longer stretches. The sound system is truly phenomenal and nothing beats an 18-way electrically adjustable heated and cooled leather seat!

Color me confused. I see no registration request for your HEX-NET (serial number ending in 55). Moreover, it came directly from us, so it should have been pre-registered to you. But please let us know exactly what "comes back failed".

Check you Spam or Junk folder. Yahoo is infamous for dumping those e-mails in there. Please check it on a real computer, not on your phone.

Can the HEX-NET be updated (firmware, ASAM Data) without connecting the USB cable, i.e., over WiFi? I've tried updating via VCDS-Mobile and it just gets stuck at 0% Progress.
I've also tried via the USB cable running Win XP through Virtualbox on a Macbook Pro, but at the last stage it always gives me a "USB Error".
I've tried going into VCDS options and changing the interface port from USB to NET and selecting my WiFi network, but that doesn't work either.
Sadly I do not have a Windows laptop. I'd appreciate any help/workaround.

The interface will remount at times, you probably need to make sure it is set to be assigned back to the virtual machine when this happens.

Thanks. Any idea how I would go about doing that?

This sort of problem is one of the reasons why vms are "not supported". But if you search the internet for "virtualbox mount usb device to vm" you find dozens of pages that appear to show how to do it, I would probably start there.

Thank you Shaun! Indeed it looks as though I didn't have the Virtualbox Guest Additions installed. Installing that and rebooting seems to have solved the problem. Hex-Net updates completed successfully without any USB errors! Whoo hoo! :D
