I have just upgraded the head unit from an MFD2 to an RNS-315, but the steering wheel buttons do not work for the radio, there is no Audio section in the MFD, and I cannot access the Radio in VCDS.

Everything is working on the radio itself, so I am confused.

remove position sensing module or compass in golf it was under roof lining and in jetta it was in trunk above metal sheet, you will see 2 screws, possibly in eos it's also in trunk
also remove in gateway coding Address 1C: Position Sensing
your gateway has software 170 but can be updated to 178 which will support navigation and also stop battery drain
in navigation try to find protocol BAP and untick it, you have red display?

I will try to locate the compass module. I also do have a red MFD yes.

Also how is the gateway updated?

Great, but that would mean the only thing that wouldn't work is the Audio Section in the MFD correct?

MSFW Buttons should be able to work and I should be able to access the Navigation Module to enable Dynaudio no? (I do have dynaudio).

Nothing
No Audio, No radio, no Satnav, no BT phone on the cluster
also MFSW might not fully work, because cluster is partly responsibile for that

So I won't have MFSW either? Removing the compass module and removing it from the can gateway will allow me to access the radio in VCDS?

access to radioa via VCDS can be done if you have proper Gateway
Access to Radio via Instrument cluster - need proper cluster

Also removing compass module. So everything should work except for MFD audio section correct after this?

already told you what might be wrong if you have RED display cluster
