2010 VW Passat wont start

In dire need of help. Took my girlfriend to the ER, dropped her off at the entrance then parked the car really quickly and went inside. Upon coming out the car wont start. It is turning, all lights are working and entertainment system is working but the car just cranks away without catching. I tried to unhook the battery for 10min to see if that would get it working to no avail. Called in a ride, got us home and went back to scan it (at 1:30 in the morning, great times). Since address 44 was the code that I thought was the biggest change, I went back into my very first scan and found address 44. Is it possible this module reset itself and that is causing the problem? Did the sensor go bad and is no longer responding and that is the problem? Would that sensor going bad not let the car even start? :banghead:

I can't sleep when I'm stressed, sorry for the rambling on and quick self reply.

Could be speaking out of turn here ( anybody feel free to correct me) and don't know what unit this is, assume gas but not sure. High pressure sensor, again assuming this is fuel, could be the issue.

Would just for giggles try another set of keys, nothing coded to this effect but worth a try.

I don't see anything in the scan data that points at a reason why the car won't start.

The steering angle sensor stuff wouldn't cause that.

An immobilizer issue would produce DTCs and given the nature of the B6 Passat's keys, I'm reasonably confident the car wouldn't even crank.

My wild-assed guess: A fueling issue. Does the in-tank pump run?

Thank you for your responses. The fuel pump does kick on when the driver door is opened so I don't believe that is the cause. I went and looked at the car again yesterday morning before having to get it towed from the ER parking lot where it was stuck. The car told me "No oil pressure engine stop" on the screen. The EPC, Check Engine, Steering Wheel and traction control lights were on. I was looking through more options on VCDS (sorry, very new to the program. Only have had it a week or two) and found an area that told me the EVAP system failed, not sure what exactly that means. Below is that scan.

In reply to Larry, when I bought the car it came with only one set of keys sadly. I haven't even had it a year yet (6-9 months if even). In my last semester of college then I was going to take money that I would be putting back after my bills to finish getting everything I needed for the car. Like a back up key, engine bottom panel that is gone as well as a few other under body pieces that are broken.

OK, if you can hear the in-tank fuel pump running, then that eliminates potential cause.

The failed EVAP readiness test isn't going to cause a no-start.

At this point, I think someone needs to go through the basics. Injectors pulsing? Plugs sparking? Things like that.

IVAGP, assume your targeting the CPS here but would think you would not have RPM on the dash either, always a quick cheap assesment.

As for me codes are nice and VW does a good job in that, but then as UWE eluded to, start looking @ stuff, and that is when I hate it in a shop.

This sounds like a faulty ignition switch, bad terminal relay or ecu, are very common for this part # with this symptom.

I would want to know if this ecu is modified.

Please reset fault memory in 0x01-02-05 & repost the scan......thank you!

I've seen a few vehicles in my time whereby the fuel pump is heard to run a few seconds at ignition on and then pump stops. A fuel volume flow test has sometimes shown no fuel supply, then after removal of the pump a split in the hose between pump and housing allowing the fuel to be pumped back into the fuel tank, without ever leaving the tank.

Or it could be just something as simple as the fuel gauge is stuck and there is actually no fuel in the tank?

My apologies for taking so long to get back to you all. Looks like the timing chain jumped which caused back pressure and screwed all my valves. Went and had a VW certified dealership put in a remanufactured engine. Once I got the car there and they put in the vin number, they told me they had the car in 150 miles before it was sold to me from the dealer saying that the shop that was working on the car messed it up. VW recommended replacing the engine then... instead the dealer took it back to that shop and had them fix their fuck up and sell it off real quick. Live and learn sadly... Anyone lives in Indiana, don't buy a car in Logansport.

I was going to say failed timing chain tensioner, already on my 3rd car i buy with that issue. 2012 and later years the tensioner is revised.
And you definitely do not need a new engine, there's about 200-300$ in parts and half a day to sort it out.

if timing belt has jumped, then camshaft and crankshaft are not sync anymore. So why no fault code appears in the ECU?
