Audi a6 avant 2.0 tdi -11 left rear light wont turn off

Hi

I have an audi a6 avant 2.0 tdi -11 that the rear light sometimes flashes or stays steady on when the car is turned off. Then it can suddenly disappear after some time without and fault codes and then come back again.
I read that some cars have an faulty brake light switch but I hooked up my VCDS to the car and checked it whit out any errors.

Does someone have any ides?

Did you try unplugging the BL switch when it happens?

Look for corrosion at light for back feed from water ingress.

Both, or just on one side? Sounds like just one side.

If it's just one, that sounds more like the European "parking lights" feature, wherein the light on one side stays on indefinitely if you leave the turn signal stalk set to one side or the other after shutdown. I can't account for it flashing, but you could at least try setting the parking lights on to see if it's enabled on your car and simulates part of what you're seeing.

Hi,

Thanks for your all replies.

Its is only the left rear light, the one that is mounted to the hatch.
I removed the entire lamp but I couldn't see any signes of corrosion or water.
And It doesnt mather how I have the turn switch when I turn of the car.

Its only the leds on the lamp that are turned on at full power, just like when you where braking.
And the lights are led from the factory and nothing that I have retrofitted. I checked the coding as well, and highlights should be coded.

okj so here is some additional information.

I measured at the contact to the light and found that it was steady 12v on pin 1 when the car was off. So i dismounted that pin and hooked it into the light again and now I dont have steady light when the car is off. And when I turn on the car, It will warn me for broken left brake lights.

So then we can exclude the light it self from the problem and look towards to my comfort module. could it be broken? Why does it feed my left brake light with 12v all the time?

Very good....... I like that you are isolating......now lets trace that hot wire back to where it is picking up that 12 volts or isolate further using WD at module.

A tone generator comes in very handy here...........

Before condemning the module inspect it!

I have now checked the wiring schema for my car and the hot wire goes directly to my comfort module, only passing connection T10ab. So it has to be my comfort module that have braked down and cant switch of the brake light voltage.
Now I will open my comfort module to see if their is any chipset that doesnt work as they should.

And it is nice and dry their as well.

is there a permament plus somewhere running to the hatch? wires in the rubber grommets could have maybe worn, and lost their insulation. then a permanent plus is rubbing against your wire to the brake wire bulb.

what happens if you connect the plug T10ab completely from the convenience module. does the light go off then? if it stays on, you can have a look at your wiring loom.

Hi,

I will check that when I get home, but I think that it is unlikly cause all wire looms are xtra isolated with isolation tape so that it will reduce noises.

Okey,

So I will post an follow up so that it might help others.

At the last time I disconnected the wire at the brake light because I didnt have the time to fix the issue at the moment, result was warning in FIS for broken brake lamp and 4/5 brake lamp where working. But I didnt have one of them turned on 24/7.

But today I had some time over and disconnected the comfort module and put it apart so I could check the board for faults. And I found that the chip who where controlling the lamp was faulty, at the first I where going to replace the chip but as I start soldering I discovered that their where some old solder connecting two pins. Leading to enable the 12v output all the time. So I resolderd the chip and now I have an fully working brake light again.

Ok, so I have attached an picture of my comfort module and where I found the fault. Its down to the left.
And here you can find the datasheet for the ST chip VND830E http://www.alldatasheet.com/view.jsp?Searchword=VND830E

I also compared my two comfort modules, I got a new one to support electric hatch and the only different I could see was the relay at the top left corner.
It would be interesting to but an relay an attache it and see if my original comfort module would work with electric hatch.
