Hi All

This my first time of using this software and I’m more of a DIY mechanic (not on electrics, absolute beginner) so keep suggestions in simple terms please.

Long story short, I purchased this car a week ago with 1 warning light flashing, I checked the basics sensors and rings etc, nothing wrong so I took the car to my mate who plugged his Snap-on machine in, code below.

Frj3ym0.jpg

01542 Yaw rate sensor (G202) electrical problem in circuit
01468 System function test activated

After reading up on that code I thought it strange that the ABS light wasn’t flashing so I decided to take the dials out and investigate, sadly under the black layer with the writing on, the tunnels down to the ABS & EML lights had been filled with black silicone to mask the problems.

So this car has been molested before I purchased it, I’m kicking myself for not noticing but I’m stuck with it now so here goes.

I have changed the sensor (1J0 907 657 B) for a second hand one and since then purchased VCDS-Lite and the results are below.

I have noticed that the ABS & Auto trans units have no coding ?

What I have done to try and fix the problem:

1. Basic settings, everything checks out ok except “ERROR not available” in group 069 and also on measuring block 006
2. Coding ABS unit to no avail, labels below if anyone can tell me what codes I should be using
3. Tracking aligned as it was 11 degrees out
4. Changed cracked vacuum hoses
5. Repositioned brake sensor switch, checked wires
6. Changed Yaw rate sensor and checked for problem with the Latitude sensor beside it and checked all wires

The only thing I haven’t done is check behind the glove box to find the Longitude sensor, it’s an automatic so I assume it must have one ?

All this and the problem still remains, ABS light flashing, large red (!) light flashing and 01486 - System Function Test Activated still on.

Car drives fine and gearbox is ok as well.

Hopefully I haven’t forgotten to mention anything but my head is spinning now. :banghead:

I’d really appreciate some help with this.

Thanks Dave

Coding of all zeros is normal for that gearbox.

ABS: Try coding of: 0019970.

This video may also be helpful:

Hi Uwe

I had tried performing that test drive loads of times as well in a large car park, I forgot to put that in the post. The ABS coding I calculated was 0001997 so I wasn't far off your code. I have put your code in and it worked straight away. It even did the reset test whilst I went to pick my wife up, within 10 minutes of driving normally in rush hour traffic.

For anybody else who reads this post:

Before I got the right coding in the ECU the lights I had on were the ABS and red (!) both constantly flashing and I could only get the traction control light to flash on for a moment.

After the correct code was in the ABS ECU, foot on the brake pedal, ABS light on constantly and traction control light was flashing like in the video, then just go for a drive.

Thanks for your help Uwe.

Yours Dave

This is a perfect example as to why a used car pre purchase inspection is recommended, along with an auto-scan.
