16.8.2 - Speed & Crashing Problems

Did some more tests using 16.8.2 on my Acer Aspire One yesterday trying to connect to 09, 17 and 5F controllers on my MQB Octavia III.

- VCDS read 19 (CAN Gateway) and showed correct controller installation list.
- 09 (BCM) hung 3 times and had to Alt-Ctrl-Del VCDS and restart it each time. So then to see if VCDS was somehow corrupted I tried ...
- 17 (Instruments) connected OK, and was able to change coding I wanted.
- 5F (Infotainment) connected OK, and was able to change adaptations I wanted.
- 09 (BCM) now connected OK, and was able to change adaptations I wanted.
- Full Auto-Scan OK.
- Downloaded adaptation maps from all controllers in car except 15 (Airbags).

So it seems as though the very large adaptation channel count of 09 (over 2200 channels) is a factor, but having successfully opened other controllers it's OK opening 09.

Here is my results from a two week old UK spec MY17 Škoda Superb L&K (220 petrol) using16.8.2,
although 09 opened without issue, it took quite a while to open and the search facility under adaptations did not work (it worked on all other controllers I opened) however the long code is all zero’s, I was therefore not brave (stupid?) enough to do any coding on 09 at this time.

I've been doing some benchmarking with a deplorable netbook here (an Atom N570 with 1GB RAM on which Santos installed Windows 10 x64 :confused:

), and hopefully this will give you an overview of the issues and fixes. Those are the times for an autoscan of Andy's Mk7 GTI using the 32bit version, which is traditionally slower:

The upcoming 16.8.3 makes use of a new optimized UDS dataset as well as optimized search algorithms; we've managed to make it faster than 16.8.1 which had a dataset with considerably less information. But there are different columns and CPUs in my benchmarks for a reason:
*If you insist on using an Atom on a UDS car, you'd better be using a HEX-NET that considerably relieves the CPU while it's doing the parsing of the UDS data.
*If you insist on using a HUC on a UDS car, you'd better get a faster CPU than an atom. See the difference going from Atom to 6700K does with the HUC: 5:26 to 4:00 with 16.8.2 that's purely CPU time, not car communication time.
*If you insist on keeping that Atom with a HUC, well, the amount of UDS data VCDS has to handle isn't going to get smaller anytime soon, and you'd better take on some other activity like meditation while VCDS loads that data. Clicking everywhere because you're getting impatient that the CPU and OS are overwhelmed does not make things better, and I suspect this is what some people call "crashing" (and recovering from it

Are those HEX-NET timings using a USB cable or WiFi? And does it make much difference?

I normally use my HEX-NET connected via USB to my netbook.

USB. WiFi with a good signal can get pretty close, but there's always some level of variability. Lots of interference in my office for instance, with all the power supplies/HEX-NETs/computers/control modules that are plugged in

16.8.3 is MUCH faster and no crashing.

Auto-Scan times on my MQB platform Octavia III:
16.8.0: 1:41
16.8.1: 1:44
16.8.2: 2:48 (but only after connecting to "simple" modules first as per earlier post in this thread)
16.8.3: 1:28
