As we all know, Ross-Tech Wiki is freely available for everyone. I guess this is one of reasons why some information is not available there in complete details. For example suggestion "to use login or adaption codes shown in pop-up balloons" instead of exact codes given. Probably it's ok to eliminate users of pirated VCDS to access all the information for free. But where verified users could find all needed information?

I started to think about it while reading this thread: http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?7711-Adapting-G450-pressure-sensor
I can't reproduce situation and give some advice to guy asking for help without exactly the same ECU connected to my own PC. It's just one possible situation. Another one example - if I have some TDI ECU and I have no label file for it, I can't get any pop-up balloons. If I know this engine coming from the same generation and family of engines, I could just read procedures for similar engine and try to do things manually. If we talk about CR TDI engines, 1,6l TDI CR and 2,7l V6 TDI CR are not covered in Wiki at all. Ok, a lot of procedures for 1,6 are the same as for 2,0l TDI CR, the same with 2,7/3,0. But not exactly the same and not everything. For example older 3,0 mainly uses 4-wire intake manifold flaps that can be adapted only with VAS 6395 A. 2,7 have 5-wire flaps and adaption is possible with VCDS. Another example - some Crafter CR TDI engines accepts DPF procedures similar to passenger cars with CR TDI. But some of them acts more like PD TDI. Nothing found in Wiki concerning this issues. Etc, and so on.

So my ideas for future: 1) some kind of "extended Wiki" for verified users only. 2) some kind of experience collection or forum FAQ, searchable by module part numbers, engine codes and component identification used in VAG technical documentation - like G450, G28, J104 etc.

Sorry, I was on a plane back from the Automechanika in Germany the day you posted this and nicely jet-lagged and behind with everything for a few days thereafter.

1) An "extended Wiki" for verified users only is something we've talked about off-and-on. One of the questions is: What do we keep just for Verified users vs. letting anyone see?

2) I'm not sure what an appropriate solution for such a database would be.

I have no exact suggestions and ready solutions, too. Only ideas. But everything starts from someone's ideas ;)
Some of my ideas:
1) leave public wiki as it is, "extended Wiki" could contain everything showing up in VCDS "pop-up balloons" (Coding and Adaptions for control modules), MVB acceptable ranges etc. in readable form and with comments/explanations.
2) "extended Wiki" could contain some space where users can add their observations and findings according that type of car or module or working out some fault code.
3) some probably technically simple thing - add rule for forum search engine to include Wiki entries in search, too. For example, if user searches in forum for fault code 16791, corresponding wiki entries (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16791/P0407/001031) shown first, then forum threads containing this code (http://forums.ross-tech.com/search.php?searchid=919689).

The Custom Google Search on the main www.Ross-Tech.com site includes the Wiki and the Forum as well as main site.

E.g.: http://www.ross-tech.com/Search-Results.html?q=16791

Who can imagine to go to main RT homepage and do search from there, if almost everyone owning and using VCDS know that diagnostic procedures and fault code descriptions are inside Wiki and other users experience can be found in forum?

OK. But does that search do what you want? In other words, if we could replace the existing searches in the Wiki and the forum with that one, would this take care of your concern?

Yes, I think. It would make search function more useful/user friendly.
