2001 Allroad: Airbag Front+Kopf - 65535 fault

I have replace quite a few of the airbag modules located all the way under/front of center dash (PITA to remove all the stuff).
Is the code below a strong indicator that the 655 C module in this 2001 Allroad is again the culprit?

Module almost certainly needs to be replaced and you need access to its harness connector in any case to verify power and ground connections, which should be done before installing a new module.

Since we are talking about Airbag Modules, I'll put this onto the table.... when installing a brand new Airbag Control Module, do not turn the ignition on until you have the module bolted down. Just plugging it up and turning the ignition on in some cases can cause... "problems". So bolt it down before powering it up.

From my understanding it is a fault similar to crash data. It can't be cleared without re-writing the EPROM chip.
Basically remove module (Easier said then done!) test for power and grounds. Load test is best. If all present send module out for rebuild.

How are airbag generations specified? Here: What generation in 2001 Allroad?
"When found in Audi Airbag Generation 6 & 7 (see Audi TPI 1308401):A Problem with the Acceleration Sensor may result in the Airbag Control Module storing this Fault Code. Replace the Airbag Control Module and both Acceleration Sensors."
Note: nothing good found for Audi TPI 1308401, searches looping back.

Hope I am not hijacking this thread but since we are talking airbags and modules here goes.

Mines an Allroad year2000 2.5 TDI.
Can anyone tell me whether I should be able to 'talk' to the Airbag Controller on this model. I am not sure if all controllers/modules etc are accessable on this 'older' model.

I use Ross-Tech VAG-COM HEX-USB+CAN Interface.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Yes even with the code you should be able to "talk" to the module. If you can log in and get a code then you are "talking" to the module.

Always see if a recode will default with a complete reboot to vacate the DTC........

Using the scan data alone, this particular Component field is less than obvious.

Some clearly state the version. For example VW8 in this scan or VW8R in this one.

Take a look the next time you are connected to that controller with VCDS and this should be shown in the open controller header:
Component: J234 - Airbag (#15) - AIRBAG8

In conclusion, this vehicle should use Airbag 8.
