Hello, I just bought my vcds to bleed my brakes after a master cylinder change. I went through the process until I came to a screen which said. Partial, venting stopped. My abs and esp does not work. It did before I bleed the brakes. My brakes feel fine. Here is the big question. The brake light switch is activated when I am off the brake. When I step on the brake it is inactive. Maybe I change some parameter without knowing it. Thanks, Joe

I hope this is what you were asking for. I have pasted the auto scan. I tried to make the first post as short as possible but will add some background. Hopefully I do not get to winded. About one year ago I changed the master cylinder. I did not know about the abs bleeding then and never had a good pedal. As time went on I forgot about it and thought it was normal. A few months ago I started to lose power or rather the accelerator. Cruise would kick off also. I found out that the brake light would stay on at times causing the engine problem. I think I am sure that the engine will not send fuel to the DSG tranny when you are on the brake. I put in a new brake light switch. Same issue. Time to get serious and by the shop manual. I did not feel the master cylinder caused the problem but I started from scratch. New master, manual and full VCDS. Brakes work fine now. No mush. There is a value for brake pressure and the lowest with no brake is .17 bar. It get higher as I step down. In my basic section it says that the brake pressure sensor is not functioning but I get readings. Sorry for not knowing all the screens I was looking at. I am typing this in my house. Before I bled the brakes the brake light would stay on but worked correctly and the abs/esp did not flash. I have registered with tech support and will call before I cry uncle and go to VW. I would rather not fail at this point. Sorry for the long post and thanks, Joe

My thanks to Jack for having me post the scan and Jeff for the info. I caused my own problems with the abs. I followed the directions provided and the abs system is working. I am narrowing down my brake lamps working backwards problem. With the brake switch wire disconnected the lamps are on. I connected the wire to my old cylinder off the car and it works correctly. I took the switch off the mounted cylinder and it also works correctly on the unmounted cylinder. Tomorrow I will switch the cylinders and see what's up. There is a magnet of some sort that activates the switch inside the master cylinder. Pretty long windup for my question. Do you have to buy genuine VW master cylinders for the brake light switch to work correctly. The one I am putting back on has its own similar brake light activation issue.
