I know you don't support Apple and since my old job took back the computer I was using for my VCDS Hex-Net I need to invest in one myself. Can I use a ChromeBook? What are the minimum specs needed?

Chromebook should work with VCDS-Mobile, but it will not work with VCDS "classic".

If you're buying a "computer" anyway, I would get a 10" Windows machine of some sort, either a book, or a tablet. They are dirt cheap because MS has made Windows free for machines that size and smaller. $100-$150....

just make sure your laptop/tablet has a usable USB port so you don't have to rely only on wifi

VCDS works great on my Winbook Tablet with Win10.

By the way, I recommend the Winbook tablets (7, 8 or 10 in.) available at MicroCenter for less than $100. They have a full size USB port for the Ross Tech adapter.

Although I used the free upgrade to Win10 from Win8, it used up quite a bit of space on the 32 GB SS drive.
After a year I did a clean reset/install (removes all files) to Win10, reloaded the applications and tablet works great, also with VCDS.

What model Winbook do you have - 700, 801, 802 , 101, something else?

I used the TW700, and while it worked, I'd was irritating to use VCDS with a touch screen and on-screen keyboard as the TW700 was never all that responsive. A small laptop is much easier to use in my experience.

I've recently got a TW101 and it's proved to be much more usable than the Acer netbook I used to use - to make it easier to use I have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but for scanning and code clearing the touch screen seems fine to me.
