2016 Golf TSI Various Fault Codes

Hello,

I just bought a brand new Golf about two months ago and recently picked up a new Micro-CAN cable. I wanted to program the car to open and close the windows with the remote, but before I did that I did an Auto Scan to make sure everything was a-okay. When I preformed the scan it came up with a few errors in some of the secondary systems. I don't know if this is normal (I would think not). Should I go to the dealer? If I show them the Auto Scan report, would the dealer know how to interpret the results? I'm going to copy and paste the report in this message so you guys can take a look. Should I be concerned?

iaco: Hi and welcome to the forum! I most certainly would return to the dealer and have a chat with whoever presented you with the car - but not because of the reason that you think!!

With the exception of the DTC in the ECU, the other error messages have the following information:
Fault Frequency: 1
........
Mileage: 20 km
Date: 2016.05.20

This says that the DTC was first recorded in the control module when the car had travelled 20kms and the fault has not occurred again in an ignition sequence since first appearing on 19/20 May 2016. Clearly these faults are part of the production/pre-delivery process (I assume that you hadn't taken delivery of the car on this date because of the low kms when you made the auto-scan). Your conversation with the dealer ought to be about what pre-delivery checks are undertaken for their new car customers!! Alas, most VW dealers seem to believe that pre-delivery procedures are nothing more than a car-wash and a beaming smile from the sales rep that accepted your final payment as your drive the vehicle out of the showroom ( and ticking-off the boxes in the check-sheet by wrote)!!

Yeah man sloppy PDI....... I agree.
The factory should be informed that their franchise is in breach of agreement......screw the dealer for CSI points and hold back money, for further not doing their job.

Personally, if there are no functional problems with that car, I would just clear those codes. IMO, it wouldn't be worth the time and aggravation to deal with the red tape at the dealer. Even if you do take it to the dealer, all they're going to do is clear the codes, so what's the point? You've got plenty of warranty left if there are any actual problems with the car, right?

Nope I disagree and here is why............

Always document that someone didn't do their job or live up to their responsibility, with certified letter return receipt, and one to you to leave unopened.

As time goes on and depending on how the dealership or even the OEM happen to handle themselves.......... is suspect.

Do this to protect yourself and if you don't say something, the same old crap will only continue to happen.

Patterns of behavior may help you later, especially if you have to make an unknown argument......... should something not be right or going your way.

What might seem small now......... may not be later.............

Should I go to my local dealer with the Auto Scan?

Going to a dealer "with a scan" may not be the greatest idea, unless you know the dealer's service department well, and they're familiar with VCDS. If you do not, it is better to go to them with some kind of functional complaint...

That's a good point. The sunroof does behave a little odd. I'm not familiar with the new four way switch for the panoramic roof as I'm used to the dial, but I don't have one touch open and close. Would that be apart of the code I'm getting for the roof? I need to make an appointment anyway because I have to get it inspected (temporary tags are expiring soon). I'll just mention the behavior with the roof and maybe they'll scan it themselves and reset the systems.

For future reference, how would I go about resetting the modules with VCDS? Is it under OBDII and clear the DTC's or does that just do Check Engine Light stuff?

Would that be apart of the code I'm getting for the roof? I need to make an appointment anyway because I have to get it inspected (temporary tags are expiring soon). I'll just mention the behavior with the roof and maybe they'll scan it themselves and reset the systems.

I like that approach. Maybe ask them for a copy of the diagnostic printout from your car, "for future reference". I think most dealers will provide that if you ask (some seem to do it as matter of course).

You may also want to ask if any of the techs use "Ross-Tech". If one or more do, IMO, those are the guys you want working on your car, 'cause they care enough to have invested some of their own money in a brand-specific tool.

From the main screen, click:
[Auto-Scan]
[Gateway Installation List]
That gives you a list of modules. The ones with faults will be in red.
Double-click on one of the modules in red. That will take you to the Fault Codes function in that module, where you can review the fault codes you're about to clear by clicking:
[Clear Codes]
Then back out of the module.
Repeat for other modules that are in red.

When you're all done, exit everything gracefully. Turn the ignition off for a bit, turn it back on, and do another complete Auto-Scan to check that nothing has come back already.
