Hi

Need some help. I've searched the entire internet and tried a bunch of different things but nothing seems to work. Little bit of a long story.
I installed a highline reverse camera/backup camera in my MK6 Gti (2014). http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-golf-mk6-rear-emblem-high-line-camera-kit-with-guidance-line,id467.html
I've installed 2 regular ones before so the wiring and panel removing wasnt such a big deal for me. Once everything was connected, it worked! Lines moved with the steering wheel and everything. Then, the next day, I stuck it in reverse and I got this message "rear view camera system is not available at present" on the screen. I've got an RNS510. The camera pops out from under the emblem but nothing happens on the screen.

Wiring:
power from camera to fuse box for a constant 12v
16 pin female connector from camera to RNS
Yellow wire from camera to reverse light +
4 wires from 16pin cable, ground, can +, can -, power

I did all the VCDS settings as it was instructed... installation list, 6c, offroad... everything. I didnt change a single thing from when it was working to when it stopped working.

I tried to install a relay thinking that it might be a power issue with the reverse light or something of the sort.
Relay pins:
pin 30 - 12V from rear cig lighter
pin 85 - Gnd from rear cig lighter
pin 87 - + from camera (tapped)
pin 86 - reverse light (tapped) and yellow signal wire from camera

made no difference. I hard restarted the RNS also.

I had another thought that it might be my CAN Gateway but its not THAT old, 2013. 7N0 907 530 AF (I think the newest is AR)

Here's my scan: (its the open circuit that im dealing with. I know how to do the calibration)

most likely one or more wires has broken, it's a common problem with VW/Audi cameras that because of flexing cable/wires break, just open and check wires/repair them and you will have working camera ;)

I've checked all the connections over and over with both a multi-meter and just bare eye. I've read something about the safety measures in the power supplies in VW's. Something about a 12.6 going to the rev light and if thats interrupted, it just ignores the interruption... in this case the camera. That would kind of make sense because theres 2 different power wires for this set up. One for the hatch (the 12V straight to the fuse box) and then the one that comes out of the 16 pin female

Alex:Yes, the mk6 does exactly the same as my mk7. The "trigger wire" for the RVC is the Left Reverse light (which gets its supply voltage from the BCM) - see my greatly simplified version of a WD below (I only have access to a mk6 Golf Plus WD). But only one power wire (fuse #23).

So, does the left reversing light actually illuminate when you put the car into R? If so , is there 12V on the connecting wire to M16 on the RVC end (yellow wire according to the WD)? Also, do you have +12V on the Fuse wire on the RVC (Red wire according to the WD)?

i had it connected to the left (driver's side) reverse light at first. Then when I put the relay in, I switched it to the right reverse light (I think because of wire lengths available). Both lights came on but the camera didnt work after the first couple times.
I've been thinking... my old camera was connected to the black/blue wire in the harness down above the rear driver's side wheel arch. Its a bit of a mission to lengthen the reverse wire from the camera and then thread it down into the trunk but does anyone think that might be a good idea?

Alex: Hi again. My WD says that the black/blue wire is electrically the same point as the switched-positive connection to M16 in my diagram!

I would defer to other more knowledgeable folk on this forum, but if you measure the volts of the power wires at the connector of the actual RVC and the volts on the trigger wire (again at the RVC connector end), and the volts are OK, then doesn't this tell you that the problem is elsewhere? I assume that the unit is correctly earthed.

Welcome to my puzzled world! The camera ground wire is connected to the reverse light ground wire. I dont know where else the problem would be. The whole open circuit thing would mean theres a loose connection somewhere but all the voltages on every wire are strong and steady. Is there was a fault in the camera module, the CANBUS wouldn't be able to read it. The fact that it worked the first couple times makes me believe its a power issue. Im going to try upgrading the can gateway but Im pretty sure that wont do much. Might try the black/blue wire just in case. From experience, the solution to things like this usually dont make much sense lol

i followed that pdf for the install. did every single little thing but it didnt work. i read... the best i could, on a russian forum about someone that had the same problem with the same camera from the same company and they installed a relay that made it work

Alex: My apology, but I would take Dutchie's advice: If you relook at the error message

02203 - Audio / Video Input 1
011 - Open Circuit

The DTC strongly suggests that the "Open Circuit" failure is in the RVC-signal, rather than the RVC-power. Your observations as described in your posts confirms this hypothesis!!

theres no break in the signal wires though and theyre soldered to the can+ and can- behind the rns unit so theres no weak taps on the connection

im beginning to think theres something wrong with the hardware but then again, if there was, the module wouldnt connect in vcds

If you've soldered wires to the CAN+ & CAN- then those are the CAN wires. Your error is with the audio video signal wires - open circuit.

You said "theres no break in the signal wires though and theyre soldered to the can+ and can- behind the rns unit so theres no weak taps on the connection". That's fair enough. But your fault code is not relevant to the CAN+ or CAN- connections. Your fault code is with the audio video input from the camera to the head unit. That circuit is not the can wires you say you've checked and soldered though. I wasn't being clever.

Carry on chasing the wrong problem though if you want to, or is there another reason you're being [redacted]?

People here may provide advice. Whether you can turn that advice into a solution to your problem is up to you. ;)

being a dick because ive been looking for advice but everyone is just saying its a broken wire, which it isnt, and providing no help whatsoever. like they just want to feel clever on the forum or something.

im chasing all possible issues.

where would you suggest the problem is if its audio/video but all wires are properly placed and unbroken
