Please see fluke products and YouTube videos are all over on how to use.....

Best tool you will ever buy for the money.......when it comes to electrical unknown troubleshooting.

Cheap to buy at any Home Depot store in USA.

    When not familiar.....
Do a quick VCDS test......unplug all door modules and plug one in at a time...........then trying com looking for a sub system, just to see if any come online.

You could pick up the tone when close to the wire bundle and it would get louder when held right on the insulation of the correct wire or pair."

Haven't used one before, but seems a good tool to have. Will check availability.
Seems a great tool (not having to take insulation of wire to check, or even proximity test). Ordered.

Do some basic tests outside the car to become familiar with how it will respond.

In the meantime don't forget to try isolating with VCDS like I added above in subsystems.

It's not like you don't have it to try............

    Just to be clear:
    1) unplug all 4 (or 5 with hatch) door modules
    2) Start VAGcom
    3) 46 convenience group
    4) check codes
    5) plug in one door module (not driver door), check codes.

Or measuring blocks to 'look for sub systems' to 'come online'?

The index or color codes are located on the box and receipt when purchasing new control modules from the VW Dealer but identifying one without a box or receipt is possible when they communicate. After the issue(s) are corrected and the modules are online and communicating you will see additional information as shown in my 2002 Gti example:
