New to the forums, working on a vw crafter 2.5 diesel. vehicle came in with a blocked dpf and no throttle response well next to nothing if you hold the throttle wide open it will take like half a minute to rise to 2500 rpm ,after replacing the dpf and running the engine still had a dpf fault and light on. after a phone call to ross tech support they were brilliant gave us the security code to access channel 15 to reset the oil ash volume and channel 16 which is carbon mass reset. resetting these turned the dpf light off and the glow plug stopped flashing and allowed us to clear the code that is in the auto scan provided below. after running the engine the measuring blocks MVB108 started to rise and the dpf light came back and the code returned. any help would be greatly appreciated and any other things you need to help with this just ask

After trying to force a regen with the vcds i failed so back to th drawing board we tried with the verus again and still failed to regen.
Done some research about dpf systems and finding our how to pcm calculates soot in the dpf i found that it doesnt just use the differential pressure sensor it also uses exhaust tempreture probes obviously if the before is hotter then the after there is a restriction it uses the llambda to control post injection quantities i assume and also the MAF sensor

So when looking at my live data using the verus i had a data parameter for desired air mass and actual air mads both reading in mg per second, the desired was at 450 mg/s and the actual at 110mg/s obviously this was brought to my attention so graphed these two and raised my rpm even though it would hardly rev , my actual dropped gradually to 20 mg / s, obviously this was a problem so i unplugged the MAF while it was running and still reading the parameters , by doing this the pcm was forced to substitute a value obvioisly this value isnt going to be correct it was actually 300mg/s at idle and stayed around 200 below the desired as i raised the rpm. As soon as i reved the engine with the MAF disconnected it was noticeably better and after re adapting the carbon mass and oil ash volume and re running the engine both did not raise and the p2463 code did not return, obviously i set a MAF code and she is now in limp mode as MAF is a critical sensor but this proved it was the issue and the unplug it test is awfully handy on vehiclrs that allow them to substitute a value.

After replacing the MAF and clearing all codes it allowed us to do a force regen and full power was returned to the vehicle

Hope this helps people

Thanks for a great write up.

It might help if you use the latest version of VCDS 17.1.3 or even the beta 17.6.0 instead a really old version...

The HEX-NET works with LT3 Crafter as of VCDS version 17.5.1 (and HEX-NET CodeBlock v0.4341 or higher).

I’ve recently replaced the DPF on my neighbour’s 2010 Crafter, fitted with the 5-cylinder, 2.5 litre common-rail engine. I’m trying to reset the learned values of the particle filter, but it seems the Crafter/LT3 requires a different method than other VW Group cars, which is usefully detailed on the Ross-Tech website http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/inde...on_of_Carbon_Mass_.28after_DPF_Replacement.29.

When you access the Engine control module on the Crafter, the [Adaption - 10] option isn’t available only the Long Adaption option.

After reading the first post on this thread, I’m guessing that I need to reset the values on channels 15 and 16 through the Long Adaption option? Are the security codes to do this listed anywhere on the site?

VCDS is a fantastic product I’ve been using for many years, recently I’ve upgraded to a HEX-NET cable which allows me to access the LT3 tab on the Select Control Module screen. My old HEX-USB cable doesn’t bring this option up. https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/LT3.php

Many thanks,
Neil

Hi and welcome. Please post an Auto-Scan so people can see exactly what ECU this van has.

If you've installed a new DPF, you should go to Adaptation Channel 016 and store the New Value 1 there. The stored value will return to 0 after this is done.

I think the Security Access code needed for this is: 17575

I do not think you need to do anything in Channel 015. That's for replacing the ECU and telling the new ECU how much ash an existing DPF has in it.

That's brilliant Uwe, I'll try it tomorrow and let you know how I got on.

Many thanks,
Neil

The Security Access code and storing the New Value 1 in Adaption Channel 016 worked as you suggested Uwe.

When I fired up the engine the DPF warning light on the instrument was still illuminated, but on rechecking MVB108 in Measuring Blocks it was reading:

108.1 0ml
108.2 0.0
108.3 12.0

So all seemed good.

I drove it out of the workshop and the DPF warning light on the cluster suddenly disappeared and hasn’t returned. The Crafter is pulling like a freight train once again and my neighbour is delighted, I think he was preparing to trailer it to the VW dealer 2 hours away!

Many thanks once again,
Neil
