I haven't observed an active regen in 15K miles which I assumed was a result of my driving style (long high speed trips across the desert). So Dr Peter explained here to observe 001 & 011 08 68, blocks 1 (ash) and 3(soot). Ash readings are progressing gradually as expected, now up to 42 grams in both 001 and011. The soot readings. last seen at 7 and 9% six months ago, seem to have bottomed out at 0% in both addresses, not sure how long ago as I haven't logged for 8K miles. Yesterday I logged on a long uphill 4wd road never exceeding 1500 rpm...still no change. No faults in either ECU. Is soot calculated from G450 and 451 only? But why no faults?

You may find info by searching for "Self Study Program 840193"

I have a smaller engine, but VW put several programs in place to decide when to regenerate the DPF

in my car, the measured soot stays close to zero all the time, while another quantity, calculated soot, increases in a steady course until the trigger for regeneeration happens. there is also a reported miles since which can also trigger the regeneration.

you may want to log a few extended drives using advanced measuring values to see how the parameters relate.

suggestion is to log, start, drive then stop the log, followed by analysis.

you can pick up to 12. experiment with anything labeled soot or regeneration.

is it tuned

Not tuned

Interesting to me that both 001 and 011 now read 0% soot and show no changes when they should be increasing.

My Advanced Measuring Blocks button is grayed out. i'm afraid the 2006 (T1) EDC 16's are not smart enough.

I posted a picture of my Regeneration for Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) while driving a few years ago.

I asked how I can find this setting again. Uwe said Adaptation Channel 13? I've looked but I can't find it.

DPF readings and health of DPF

Then you can log measuring blocks. just have to look for related values, pick three, and log away.

:vc

the time period for DPF soot cycles are tens to hundreds of miles.

in my limited experience, there are labled values which read nothing, and others that reveal much info.

VW was not thinking of us when they did the programming.

I know to look at 068 or 075. The problem is the soot load duty cycle is stuck on 0% in both ECM's. Last log with reasonable numbers was 8K miles ago. Not sure what would cause both to read 0% for miles now.

I think you've actually burnt much less oil (or that oil was very low SAPS) than the ECM computed (those 42g of ashes, solely based on mileage I think), and your measured soot is being hidden inside those 42 grams of ash.

Your readings are different than the ones on my 2.0 liter CBEA engine.

is there a place to see miles or hours since last regeneration?

what are the names of the fields for the fields in Measuring block 068 and 075?

My experience is that more logging leads to more understanding.

but pretty much you have to look one Measuring block at a time till you find something interesting.

(this means sitting in the car with the ignition at least on, and the computer hooked up with VCDS running.)

Unfortunately, we never got a label file for the V10, despite some teases from Sebastian as early as 2008 on the German forum. So we get cryptic labels like "grams" or "%."

Make your own........... because that's what I do from day one, with a VAG tester, when data is lacking in a publication.

Start with unplugging one sensor at a time, while further observing the block which is unknown, and write it down when you get a hit.
Further reference any BITs, unplugged, plugged in at idle, part throttle etc.. + DTC type created for each when manipulated.

The repair manual has clear details in the OBD2 spec for tests of the readiness PID values for OXS.

Time to play in 0x33 and take some initiative.

I think you've actually burnt much less oil (or that oil was very low SAPS) than the ECM computed (those 42g of ashes, solely based on mileage I think), and your measured soot is being hidden inside those 42 grams of ash.

I would like very much to believe this explanation. Not sure how a measured value (soot) can be masked by calculated ash.
