- bucking under load starting around 4000 rpm
- no misfires
- observed tachometer needle (RPM) swinging (unstable). NOT normal

Possible that G28 engine speed sensor is causing all issues?
Or is bucking under load caused by failing boost control (bypass valve (DV) and control vavle (N75)?

G28 is the single most important sensor on the engine. I'd certainly focus on it first.

I disagree.......

I would sort the short to ground first, because if the controller is disrupted on consumer side, it makes this disruption to the G28; and which is not a dead G28, but a Implausible Signal.

Same stamp for miles too.

This ones left hand drive though......:D

I'd unplug all those sensors on consumer bus, and road test in limp mode to see if the G28 shuts down though..

Isolate!

From older engines (1.8T, 2.7T): crank (engine speed) is used for starting, then switching to cam sensor?
Is the G28 (here) the crank or cam sensor?

Ordering G28 now. First thing.
Also had ripped bladder in DV (no upgraded to piston style I think). Is 2007 still using bladder style? Fairly massive bucking under load ight be boost control?

Yes it could be boost control or any consumer on the bus shorting to ground that you have a DTC for or even other shared tracks.

The G28 is the Engine speed and you would know that if you RTFB a search in the WD or repair manual.
The G28 doesn't switch to G40 either which is the cam sensor you reference.

Googled RTFB. Thanks for the tip. Always find it amusing that people take the time to dish out ADVISE instead of answers.

I found that bad crank sensor still can result in car starting after longer cranking (i.e. long cranking often an indicator that cranks sensor is on its way out). I was under the impression that cam signal is used to 'support' (located TDC for ignition).
Also: I had engine continuing to run with crank going bad, using the low resolution cam signal as timing reference (also just an assumption).

If you said "Jack I have so and so ohms here, on this track, and this does this here", I could recant with maybe an idea by myself looking in WD.

RTFB means "Read The Repair Book"

I prefer to fix cars vicariously through you, to stay sharp myself as an exercise.
I can't do that if you just want answers, with no valid input, or argument through speculations.
