Just want to add something, I noticed that Windows defender was running in the background so was making vcds run very slow, even trying to open the program, I have to open search bar then go to Windows defender and turn it off, It works like a dream now, this was the package I bought the hex+can and Windows tablet from yourselfs, maybe when selling the product add a note and tell them to turn this program off.
Yeah, recent updates to Windows Defender / MS Security Essentials really seem to bog down VCDS. I wouldn't recommend turning it off entirely, but telling it to leave VCDS alone is probably appropriate, at least until MS fixes whatever they broke.

I've noticed Windows defender takes up 50% of ram so when trying to run VCDS it just Dosnt want to open, give it 3/5min and it opens, turn Windows defender off and VCDS opens in 3secs, Windows defender does turn itself back on but I just keep turning it off again, I only used the tablet for use with cars anyway and it's never connected to the net while working on cars, it's a pain in the but if I say so, if I didn't no the in and out of a computer I prob would have gave the tablet away cause it was so slow, but now it's great.
I have no idea what tablet you're using. We've never sold tablets, so it's something one of our resellers supplied.
Try this please (screen-shot is from MS Security Essentials, but I think Windows Defender is essentially the same):

^^^^ bigjohn: little solace I know - but this problem doesn't seem to be an issue on my tablet (surface Pro 3 running Windows 10 -64 bit). VCDS opens-up within 3-4 seconds without any exclusion settings in Windows Defender.
