Struggling to use VCDS after 2 yr break

When I bought my VCDS Hex+CAN USB at the end of 2015 I had no problems getting the software downloaded, the cable registered (or whatever) and used it on around 3 vehicles.

A couple of years later, and without a suitable car to link the VCDS to I'm looking to sell on.

I've downloaded Release 18.2.1 in the hope I might find if the cable is unlimited VIN or not but I seem to need to run a test on a vehicle before the software will give me that information.

Can I learn from the cable ID number whether its unlimited?

A HEX-CAN cable is not VIN associated. VIN-Limit came into count with Current Generation HEX-NET and HEX-V2 cables.

Yours is unlimited and can be used as many vehicles You like.

    Agreed.

The downside is that it may not fully support some 2016 and newer model cars, and new features being added to VCDS are may only be available if one is using a current interface.
