version 16.3.1 DTC reports- Wow!!

I loaded the new Beta version yesterday and I instantly noticed the enhanced DTC reporting facility - Kudos to whoever designed them.

Anyway, eager to learn what was actually in these new reporting functions, I decided to generate a few test DTCs by resetting 03-ABS and the 44-Steering Assist control modules to factory values. The reason that I chose these two control modules was that they had a reasonable admap listing without being too onerous to reconstitute back to their original values. I've now finished rebuilding the coding/adaption channels and everything is back to normal, but I have this wonderful treasure-trove of information which I want to decode, But there's so much new stuff that I need help!

For the Auto Trans control module what is "DTC memory status: 7168"? and "DTC memory status: 8448"? (note this was a pre-existing DTC unrelated to my test program
For the Steering Assist control module can anyone explain the string of new reports under DTC "15873"

Any assistance with answering these questions wqould be greatly appreciated

Uwe: I was kind-of expecting that this would be the response (as is the normal case with any newly exposed VW information in the public domain)! Guess it's yet another example of having to find-out the information by "osmosis" and through community forums - like this one!

Yes there is a lot of information, that would be nice to find meaning of by time.

But I like the above Freeze Frames in your DSG, that appeared before you made the reset :cool:

I read it something like this:
While you can follow the turns of the engine with your eyes, the car is driving highway speed.
The ECU is freezing, yes early winter in Australia

And vacuum oil pressure, running in 5 gear, but drive in neutral in something like overrun state..
How did you do that

NEtech: Yes, you do ask some truly baffling questions (you have a keen eye for detail - a good diagnostic trait)! Short answer: I have absolutely no idea - it never gets down to -13 °C in Melbourne (even in the dead of winter, and certainly not in late summer/early autumn). I guess the low engine revs could be due to extra-low idling (almost engine stall), but it's difficult to believe!

The only explanation I have (and it's a complete guess) is that the dichotomy between the Fahren (neutral?) and GANG:5 readings could be the reason why the DTC happened in the first-place (because it's a implausible state)! But what is the meaning of the "primary stat" of the clutch in a DSG gearbox anyway, if it isn't Fahren??

Sorry to go a bit OT but I didn’t really want to start a new thread.

I did not get a notification for this update (set for Releases and Betas) so I checked manually and it said there was no update available at this time, so I had to download it directly from the Ross-Tech site??

(I was using 16.3.0 before)

We did not set up an automatic update from 16.3.0 to 16.3.1 because 16.3.0 was only available for a very short time, and unless you're using a Micro-CAN interface, there's no need to do that particular update. Of course if you wish to, you can do it manually.

I have just installed the beta 16.3.1 recently and found out that the Clear all DTC button does not actually clear out the errors.
I had to get into the individual module and clear the error manually. Not sure if this bug is already reported.
Have been using this 1-Click clear all DTC function on the older VCDS version without problems.

I would think, if you want to compare this function between VCDS versions, it should be the same car, same Controllers and same DTC's.
It did not clears any DTC in any Controller ?

Yes, it's been tested on the same 2015 Audi S3 8V which is my own car.
It did not clear any DTC in those controllers reported having error.
