VCDS stops on a Auto Scan on Address 05: Acc/Start Auth

HI all , first post so please be gentle

I did a auto scan on my A6 C6 and this ran no problem and had 4 DTCs which I checked and cleaned except for the 05
which had this

as there was only 1 fault I cleaned and thought I would see if it came back .

I now run the auto scan and it stalls at channel 5 ?
if I try to open the 05 controller it just seems to stall and I have to kill VCDS ??

the gateway reports that it is 05-Acc/Start Auth. -- Status: ok 0000

I have tried key in not running .
key in and engine running
anybody got any Ideas??

If I had to guess, I'd say your Kessy (Acc/Start Auth) module in some very unhappy state. "Control Module - EEPROM Error" is never a good sign.

Can you post the scan you ran earlier? Even if you didn't explicitly save it, it should still be in the Scans sub-folder.

this was the original scan , after I cleared the DTC VCDS has failed to communicate with Acc/Start Auth.
what is Kessy ??

the gateways scan reports no error
but if I explicitly go into Acc/Start Auth VCDS hangs and i have to kill the process .
I am not entirley sure what acc/start auth is .
is this the key /ignition ?
I have a key with fob I have to put in the ignition switch and I have a early 2005 A6 c6

Kessy is another name for the Access/Start Authorization Module you're having trouble with at address 05.

RTFB the manual at Erwin........print to PDF.

Find the module location using WD and component locations guide in the repair manual.

Remove Kessy and check in area of it for water ingress.

I think the 4F chassis KESSY is sold with the entire steering column and ESCL (Electric Steering Column Lock) but ruling out water/corrosion and voltage drops to it would be best.

P.S. If it is faulty that controller is the Immobilizer. So, if it needs to be replaced - be warned the car will not communicate or start/run/drive until it is matched. We do not have a matching procedure for that particular Immo system so online at the Audi dealer -or- online Independent solutions such as a Pass-Thru running ODIS would be needed to match it.

sorry guys
I am a bit confused now?
as the car starts drive and stops without any issues ?? , as I have said before the Gateway reports no Malfunctions including channel 5 ?

the Car is a 2005 Audi A6 c6 /4F 3.0 TDI Sline.

I have checked and reseated all the fused with no effect

the VDS Gateway test works no problems
I can run all tests individually on all channels EXCEPT channel 5 which just seems to stop ( as there seems to be no timeout in the software )
if I run the auto scan it runs through the gateway check starts running the checks on all channels but stalls at channel 5 ?

the car and keyfob seems to work without issue ? but I am confused why the VCDS cannot see channel 5 without throwing up some sort of malfunction ?

HI Uwe VCDS just seems to hang , although i think it is more there is no time out on the access , I have to kill VCDS using task manager .

update

ok I fully charged the battery for 48 hours and tried the spare key and all seems to work and the auto scan now works .
so looks like it may be the Key at fault .
I will double check the problem over the weekend to check my thoughs are correct .

FWIW, I believe there are conditions where a control module can explicitly tell VCDS, "Stand by, I'm busy" and VCDS will do precisely that...
