This is my first post so hi to everyone!

I have succesfully deactivated start/stop function on my Q3 TDI. However I still got start/stop symbol ( crossed out A ) displayed on instrument panel.
Question : how to get rid of this?
thank you.

gienol: Hello and welcome to the forum- I'm honoured to be the first response to your first post!

Before dealing with your question, let me acknowledge that the SS disable tweak is not an RT sanctioned change! This said, I (like you) think that SS is a woefully implemented facility in the VW family of vehicles!

I assume that you have disabled SS using either the "Voltage" method, or the "Temperature" method. Both of these tweaks trick the car into thinking that either there is insufficient voltage at the battery to re-start the engine (and therefore the engine doesn't switch-off), or that the temperature is too high to activate SS when the car is at a standstill.

So, the dreaded "crossed out A" is normal in this condition because the car is programmed to display this symbol when SS is prohibited from operating because of an internal process. Alas, the crossed-out A symbol is a tell for this VCDS tweak - and unless your car has a "integrated" method of disabling SS, I don't believe that it's possible to remove the symbol (an example of an integrated SS tweak is the facility in later models of the mk7 which have an adaptation channel called Deactivation of start-stop function in the Acc/Start Auth. Control module - @ address hex05, HW:5Q0-959-435)

Don

PS: I implemented this tweak years ago and I just accepted the slash-A symbol when the car came to a rest (much better than having the engine switch-off). But I eventually designed and installed a simple electronic device that automatically disables the function when I turn-on the ignition (and still allows me to re-engage SS if I want - not that I have ever wanted to do so). Details HERE.

Have you searched ("stop") trough Adaptation channels in [17-Instruments] ?

DV52 - I'm really impressed with your smart devices. However my electronic DIY abilities are too limited to make me sure I'm successful with the job :)
It's here how I disabled SS:http://www.q3ownersclub.co.uk/forum/tdi-start-stop-deactivation-mod_topic3033.html

Netech - in fact there is an adaptation chanel in in [17-Instruments] - start/stop symbol change from enable to disable but changing it gives no effect so I assume there might be something more to be modified.

Reversing pf the s/s system is normally NOT done in the instruments, but with a login code in central electronics (09) and an adaption channel. On the A6 it is done in channel 34.

----/----

Login 20113
Adapt channel 34

-4 SS at ignition on off
+4 SS always off
+32 last status SS after ignition off

It's here how I disabled SS:http://www.q3ownersclub.co.uk/forum/tdi-start-stop-deactivation-mod_topic3033.html
.

gienol: Don't be impressed- they are very simple devices that a first-year engineering grad student could easily design :):)!

The tweak in your link is different than I had assumed in my first response. This said, I suspect that the end-effect is the same as in the case of MQB platform vehicles; the sense of the descriptor "External Start/Stop information active" suggests a process similar to the Temperature/Voltage method albeit I admit that the link is rather tenuous on first read (i.e. Temp/Volts are external data inputs used for S/S control decisions)!

Don

PS: If you want to try one of my devices, PM and we can discuss an arrangement of mutual benefit, but first refer to a WD to ascertain if one side of the S/S disable button on your car is earthed - else I will need to modify the design

DV52 - How about to install a relay with shortened reaction : http://www.ase.hoste.pl/pdfy/time relay 2DS.pdf - with 3 and 5 terminal connected to start/stop switch terminals T10f/5 and T10f/3 http://zapodaj.net/04714d969a7a4.png.html ? That would simulate my finger pressing the switch once the ignition is on. What is your opinion?
thanks

No I would expect that the login code is different on your car. I also expect the whole procedure to be different (maybe different adaption channel, maybe a coding thing, maybe something else). But I am 99% sure that there is a way to fix this with software, you just have to know the procedure on your car.

A friend has a 2016 Caddy, and we have started the puzzle to find this procedure on his car.

gienol: Hello again. I'm sensing a prospective new convert to the fledgling Automatic-SS-Kill-Switch club. Welcome aboard - if you take the next, small step!
First, I have to agree with NL-TAL that it's obviously better and easier if you can find an "integrated" software solution to this problem (i.e. an adaptation channel/coding Bit that can be changed without the "tell" appearing). But, in the absence of such a find, the "Low-tech" solution is an acceptable alternative (IMO).

The principal difference between your relay and my device is that it appears to have no "wait-time" between when the relay is energised and when the contacts close. I'm not sure if this will be a problem on your car, but I deliberately designed a "latency" in my device to allow the BCM circuity to stabilise after ignition switch-on (i.e. before sending the kill-pulse). The wait time on my device is 5 seconds, but after building a few of these devices, I now reckon that only a couple of seconds is needed (I think). The problem with the electrical environment in which the device must operate is that a lot is happening when the car's ignition is switched-on. My biggest concern was that SS is actually disabled on the edge of the kill-pulse (on a mk7, it's the negative edge - on your car, I suspect that it's the positive edge of the pulse). So I wanted to separate in time, the BCM dynamic and the sending of the kill-pulse - which I did with the wait-time (hope that this makes sense).

Anyhow, my real answer to your question is "I don't know - but I doubt that the timings will be correct, but I suggest that you try it out and see what happens. There ought be very little risk with trying your approach given that all you are doing is mimicking the car's native SS disable switch.

Please keep us informed of progress - if you proceed
Don

PS: the other consideration is how you will energise the relay. It will need a terminal-15 supply. If SC13 isn't such a supply, then you will need to find a terminal-15 rail on another fuse (resulting inn 4 x connections)
