Hi,

I'm trying to enable High Beam Assist in a 2016 GTI with DAP. When I try to code Byte 2 on the A5- Frt Sens. Drv. Assist module, I get Coding Rejected Error 98: Unknown (0x98).

Also, does anyone know when a label file might be available for the 09- Centr. Electronics module 5Q0 937 087 AA?

Regards,

Benno

How are you trying to change the coding on A5 - are you just manually editing the long coding, or selecting Byte 2 Bit 0?
You could just change your A5 coding from
0100000000020306000400010100000100
to
0100010000020306000400010100000100

I've used the long coding helper, and that is the coding that was produced but I get error 98 every time. I've tried it with the lights on/off, ignition on/off. I also can't seem to enter what I believe to be the correct coding on the 09 BCM unit, byte 2. I try to change the coding from 0A to 0B, which I have reason to believe is correct, but I get coding rejected error 81.

Is it possible that these codings are locked out in my region (USA), as HBA is not offered here? Or could it be that my aging windows xp laptop is too old to reliably change the coding?

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Does anybody have an autoscan from a 2016 Canada Golf/GTI (not R), that has Xenons and ideally has the tech pack?

Do you have a link to the instructions for enabling this? I didn't know it was even possible and would love to try, myself.

The changes came from here:
http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/318997-coding-adaptation-help-required-–-high-beam-assist/

I suspect that 2016 Canadian cars with DAP have the same hardware as 2016 USA cars with DAP, so I believe it should be possible. I suspect that the changes that need to be made are:

09- Central Electronics adaptations: [2] Assistance Light Functions- Menuesteuring Fernlichts- Change from Not Present to Present
09- Central Electronics coding: Byte 2/Bit 0 change to 1. (Byte should change from 0A to 0B (MT), or 1A to 1B (Automatic)) - Coding is rejected, though
A5- Frnt Assist/Driver Assist coding: Change Byte 2 to 01 (High Beam Assist Present)- Coding is rejected, though

I think I read somewhere that the coding needs to be done with the lights in the off position, but it hasn't worked for me.

As noted in the link, I don't think any changes to 19- CANBUS are required with Lane Assist present.

If I could get an autoscan of a 2016 Canadian w/DAP this would help a lot.

Cool, I might give it a shot on my car tomorrow and see what happens. Do you know of anyone that has got this to work in NA?

I've just started trying to get this tweak going myself. So far, no luck. Here's what I've done:

– I read through most of the thread by the Octavia Mk3 owners, who recommended the coding changes to 09 and A5 as posted by bbelhumeur above.

– Unlike bbelhumeur's results, my car (MY16 NAR Golf R with Technology Pack) accepts all of the coding and adaptations. The long coding bits are labelled in VCDS 15.7.3 and match the descriptions above.

– I get the Light Assist menu in the infotainment, but activating the feature on the signal stalk gives this error:

tQ0hAhBl.jpg

– I've tried reverting back to factory and re-coding a second time. (This suggestion seemed to work for several people on the Skoda forum.) I've tried many of the little suggestions by andyvee, including clearing codes, ensuring switches are off, etc. without any success.

My experience so far has been pretty similar to this other post here. This user eventually got his to work (8V A3) by trying the coding again. I guess I'll try again myself another day and see what happens.

Interesting. Waiting to get my car back from the detailer today then I have a few VCDS tweeks I want to do. Ill see if I have time to add this to the list and report back!

When it actually works, once you push the signal stock forward to turn on high beams is when it would go into effect, yes?

As I understand it, you have you have the headlight switch on AUTO, and you push the signal forward, yes. You should get the "headlight with an A" icon at the bottom of your display. In my case, the icon appeared for a split second, then it threw up the pictured error. The high beams go back to functioning as normal until I disable/enable "Light Assist" in the Lights menu to reset it.

When do you get the fault error? As soon as you turn on the high beams?

I just did the coding, everything went fine. Turned on the car, and light assist was checked automatically. Turned on the high beams in my garage, and they came on with no errors. Haven't had a chance to drive yet and see if it actually does anything, but Im going to try to go tonight and report back. Wonder if it actually worked...

Awesome! What coding did you use? Are you in US?

Yep, US. I used the instructions that bbelhumeur posted above (and I think you used as well?). Like you, everything was labeled in the long coding helper.

Cool. Can you post an autoscan? Or see if we have the same 09 and A5 modules (see my autoscan on first page)? I can't figure out why this doesn't work unless my 2002 vintage Thinkpad is too slow.

Maybe tomorrow if I have time. I have to boot my computer (mac) into windows, so its a PITA to start up the program. Lemme see if it actually works, I'm going to go for a spin in a little bit.

Nice! Yeah, so long as you have the "headlight with an A" icon at the bottom of the display staying there, it's working! Mine would give the error right away and the icon would disappear.

Just got back from a drive. I definitely don't have that icon. Do you have a picture of it, by chance? Anyway, nothing happened. Poop.

Have you been able to get that icon?

IT WORKS!!!!

So after seeing your post about the icon, I went back out in my car to try to play with VCDS, but first played with the turn signal stock and realized that I actually do get that icon when its in the normal position (i.e., not high beams). I misunderstood and thought it needed to be in high beam mode for it to come on.

So I took another drive, and of course there were cars everywhere. But I got it to activate high beams two or three times. It seems like its really sensitive to light, so it really only activates if its completely dark with no cars (obviously) or no ambient light at all. Im curious what exactly the threshold is for activation.

Ill see if I can get a scan for you tomorrow. Dinner time for me.

So it automatically turns the brights on when you are in "normal" mode and leaves the brights on always in "bright" mode? That doesn't seem good. No way to disable bright lights.
