We all work on cars here, obviously, so wanted to pass this along.

About 5 years ago a Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant and I were working late one night.
He pulled out a flashlight like I'd never seen before - small and bright as hell.

He uses it for night qual, and likes to reverse the clip to attach it to his collar to work on things.

When I got home I ordered 4 of them and not a single one has let me down.
One is on me at all times and others are scattered around the house, toolboxes, etc.

They take 2 AA batteries and I easily get 6-8 months or more per set.
It's called the Streamlight Stylus Pro and is about $20

Note: Neither I nor Ross-Tech are affiliated with Streamlight. This is my personal recommendation.

This is just wrong, wrong I tell you.
You show a new flashlight to a guy who's addicted to them.... and one that's Arduino compatible no less !

Flashlights in vehicles are handy but because you don't use them when you come to use them the batteries are normally discharged because they are forgotten about. For many years I've had one of the windup flashlights which eliminates the need to keep the batteries good.

WTF? Why does one need all those electronics in a flashlight? I've got variable wattage vapes (with OLED displays) that have circuit boards that are less complicated than that!

Lowe's has one on clearance which I am amazed by. Now before you poo-poo it, for its pedigree and price, look:
$_35.JPG

It's 50% off its original price, so currently about $9. It's a larger than it appears in the pics; it looks like it takes "C" batteries.

Here's what makes it great.
Variable focus with great optics. Stops at one end with a bright spot that not much bigger than the lens at 30'.Other extreme is 3' circle of light at 3'.
No dark spot in the center no matter what the beam size focus.
Long flexible "neck" with no rebound effect- stays right where you bend it. And strongly
Has two brightness levels, and a (useless) "strobe" mode.
Third lighting mode is an area light, diffuse around the perimeter:

assembles into a regular flashlight as seen in picture above, for what that's worth.. Has four strong magnets on the battery pack end and one on the head.

What I really love is it comes with two battery packs; one for three-double-A, and one a rechargeable. The rechargeable has built-in plug so you just extend it and plug it into an outlet and the red LED goes green when it's charged.

I can see me buying up a case for Christmas gifts. And not just 'cause I'm cheap, but because I Love this light!

I wish I could trade in all the Mag-Lites I spent hundreds on in the 80s.

G'night
Tom

It's very bright, it's tacticool, and the best part, it charges over micro-usb.
And it takes 18650s, which means it can be used as a backup charger for one's vapes.

Except for the fact that it doesn't charge via USB, I like my XTAR B20 just as well (maybe better):

It also uses 18650s. I bought it on a whim when I was ordering batteries for my vapes from Orbtronic.

USB charging is a nice feature, but when you have XTAR chargers scattered around the house....
