New to VCDS. Getting "No response from controller"

Hey all, I'm new to the audi VCDS world. I bought a legitimate HEX wifi device and on many modules I receive a "No repsonse from controller" message. If someone could help me remedy this situation, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Please help us by telling us how you have connected the HEX-NET. Are you using the HEX-NET with VCDS on Windows PC or are you using the HEX-NET with VCDS-Mobile on a smart device?

Also, are you aware that your Allroad may not have all diagnostic capable modules listed installed? When this happens and you query a non-installed module, the error report you have given is the response from a module that is not present. The VCDS software is reporting that a request was made but nothing was returned from the controller.

Again, please tell us more about what you are trying to do and with which modules you are trying to do this.

Hey Bruce, thanks for the response.

I went ahead about bought a Lenovo Thinkpad with windows 7 that I will use predominantly for diagnostics and learning how to tune.

A couple modules I know that give me trouble are trying to access both rear doors. I can gain access to see that error codes that the rear doors "cant unlock", but I can't access the doors individually.

Also, trying to change settings so that there's an audible "beep" when the car is locked with the fob. I saw online that it can be accessed through "central convenience", but I get the "no response from controller" error when trying to get in.

Let's see an autoscan with engine running or battery charger connected. Then we'll be able to see if there are modules that are definitely diagnostic-capable and installed, that don't answer. Rear doors and central convenience are not one of those, but it's entirely possible we have issues with other addresses.

Right, the 4B chassis (Audi A6/S6/RS6/allroad (4B) does not use diagnostic capable door modules or #46 but the Auto-Scan will show us if #35-Central Locking in addition to all of the other addresses are behaving normally.

P.S. If the beep can be modified that would be located in #35 rather than #46

Assuming this car has a manual transmission, I don't see any modules that are obviously missing, except for 34-Level Control. However based on the fault codes in other modules which indicate they can't talk to it either, it seems to be off-line.

No car has a module at every address. This car is too old to have a gateway with a list of addresses that can be read out showing what modules are actually installed in the car, so VCDS gives you a list of addresses scans a list of addresses that MIGHT be in the car. When you go to select an individual control module, it gives you a list of addresses that might be an ANY car..

The previous owner did the coil conversion. I'm in the process of sourcing air bags to switch back. I would assume the level control has to do with the air suspension.

Well, you have fault codes indicating problems that should be addressed, but I don't see any problems with VCDS itself here.

I've ordered a new ABS pump and both EGT sensors. Hopefully that will be the extent of mechanical repairs needed.
