Hi Jef,
No, the basic settings status never changed to finished like it would with regular G85 calibration on a PQ car for example.
But following the process you described resulted in the fault being cleared.
I have run the procedure in O..S in the past and that gives a successful message, though I was not watching the measuring block for basic settings status, just do as it says.

had to do this in abs...would not work in 44-steering assist plus the security access baloon popped up a different number in 44-steering assist,i tried the procedure in abs and it worked.....thankyou guys.

Will this procedure work on NAR MQB Tiguan? I had to disconnect car's battery for easy open retrofit. I'm pretty sure I got these errors because I disconnected the battery and not because of easy open retrofit(keep reading)

O man I feel silly. You know I did that when I first connected the battery but forgot that I need to also do one full key on/off cycle. I just cleared all errors and the only one that remained is my 05-module "easy open sensor", but that is expected.
I will now go figure that thing out.

had to do this in abs...would not work in 44-steering assist plus the security access baloon popped up a different number in 44-steering assist,i tried the procedure in abs and it worked.....thankyou guys.

I don't know when or if you will read this message, but I was wondering if you could give me some additional information on how you did this in 03 ABS. More specifically, what Security Access code did you use in your 03ABS? And what code did it tell you when you were trying to use steering 44? And it would also help if you told us if the procedure is the same as the one outlined here. Thanks hope to hear from you soon.


Oh yea for the others who got stuck at the "Running" part, just make sure both say permitted after turning lock to lock and centering(there is also a tab for degree value of the steering sensor for when you are re-centering the wheel, located near the steering angle basic setting start tabs), and then press DONE, not stop.....there is no confirmation for our cars, open up steering angle sensor status tab where you opened the basic settings start tabs and make sure it says "initialized" or "calibrated" it can even take a minute or so after calibrating it so wait a minute or two after pressing done. If it never says calibrated you did it wrong it might say Not Calibrated. When it says calibrated, all your dash lights and warnings should disappear. You may need to do an additional lock to lock and center AFTER pressing done with "Running" in order for the status to switch to Calibrated.

I've been digging through many posts on 44-steering assist module trying to resolve end stops failing to adapt. It all started with resetting the module to factory settings because i have VCDS, a VW Alltrack, a lift, and imagination, SMH! Corrected the coding back to 8102 and went through the procedure several times but could not resolve the error in the module for end stops not learned. (16387 - Steering End Stops Not Learned). I could calibrate and clear dash lights.

Unrelated...The scan below also shows an over pressure fault due to some bad fuel (hope) and tuning (stage2 IS20), however, proof of calibration without end stops adapting is there.

To get to the point I figured out a way to get this issue resolved. #1 Using this procedure. This would allow me to clear the dash lights in turn reaching initialized and calibrated.

So to add to the process...

END STOP ADAPTATION
Prerequisites: Steering Calibrated
  1. Power Cycle upon successful calibration and no DTC's
  2. Key On Engine Running
  3. Login in to Module 44-SA as "CODING"
  4. >"28183" enter
  5. Select Basic Settings >> End Stop Reset
  6. >Do it!
  7. Even though it says completed successfully, DO NOT "GO BACK" or "STOP"
  8. Monitor IDE05162-IDE03723; IDE05162-MAS01849; IDE05162-MAS01850
  9. Perform full lock to lock rolling test. ...03723 will report adapted upon completion!
I suspect that "coding" is needed as login method in order to write the values into the module's memory.

Hopefully this helps round out the 5K steering module wiki. Please add!

We've had some customer inquiries about this so I was able to induce a fault in my 2015 GTI in 44-Steering Assist and was able to clear it using the following steps.

First, here is the fault in question:

So first with the engine running, I went into Adv Meas Values and made sure that the steering wheel was pointed straight and the front wheels were pointed straight, close enough:

Next, I went into Security Access -16 and entered the code that shows up in the little helper balloon and it was accepted.

Next, I went into Basic Settings - 04 and chose "Steering angle sensor" and clicked [Go!]

Here's the weird part, it showed "Running" but never changed from that. I left it in this mode for 60 seconds then clicked on [Stop] and [Done, Go Back] and [Close Controller, Go Back].

Next, I cycled the ignition off and back on again. At this point, the TPMS, steering wheel, and ESP lights were still lit up on the dash but a brief drive through a parking lot made them all go away.
I had this same problem with a vehicle today, but the code was 0288, carried out the procedure above and it was rectified. Many Thanks

When doing the Basic Settings [MAS00815] Steering angle sensor, did it ever go to "Finished Correctly"?

We have been testing this test plan last night and this morning on different vehicles within the Ross-Tech fleet, but these have all been vehicles in proper working order.

The Cliff Notes version of what we are doing:

Engine at idle.
[44-Steering Assist]
Rotate steering wheel 90deg left then center, 90deg right then center so steering wheel is level, front wheels pointed straight ahead.
[Security Access - 16]
Enter 19249
[Basic Settings - 04]
In Basic Settings, pick [MAS00815] Steering angle sensor
[Go!]
Rotate steering wheel all the way to the left, hold firmly against end stop for 5 seconds.
Rotate steering wheel all the way to the right, hold firmly against end stop for 5 seconds.
Center steering wheel, front wheel straight ahead.
Note: our testing of this would still be "Running", never got a message of "Finished Correctly"
[Stop]
Now a bunch of error messages and warnings will appear on the cluster, what messages you get can vary based on how the vehicles is equipped.
[Done, Go Back]
Rotate steering wheel all the way to the left, hold firmly against end stop for 5 seconds.
Rotate steering wheel all the way to the right, hold firmly against end stop for 5 seconds.
Center steering wheel, front wheel straight ahead.
Now most warning messaged in instrument cluster should be removed.
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
Cycle the ignition off for 10 seconds.
Several other control modules will flag DTCs, "Databus" type codes that can now be cleared out.

Again, we are doing this on vehicles that had no fault codes to begin with.

We have a Finished Correctly!
Atlas that actually had hard codes for the G85.
after spending two hours trying to do basic settings for g85 for skoda octavia 2015 (mqb) and failing
finally found this method and it worked !!

This calibration procedure also worked for me with ROW MQB Tiguan. After calibration I was left with the 16387 - Steering End Stops Not Learned code.
Before I could carry out the End Stop Adaption procedure as described by Dmaxison further up, I found the car automatically learned the end stops and removed the fault code following a short 1 mile journey with a few full locks.

Not terribly surprising. I would think the full locks are the key.
