They sell ~10 million cars a year. That's ~$200 per car sold. Not that big a deal.

I like that simple math a lot Uwe, it really puts things in perspective & for what VAG can afford to part with and survive a catastrophe?

Negative attention strategy seems to work well lately for politics and car or companies in general for prosperity due to image recognition in an absurd advertisement?

I'm almost convinced it is done purposefully to gain free advertising and inadvertently recognized in people's heads?
Seems to be working and paying off no?

Oh horsefeathers. How were they harmed? They got cars that performed better than would have been possible had VW not "cheated".

Case dismissed. With prejudice! :p

False advertising?
Maybe the fact the cars clearly now don't represent what they were sold as being self evident and are further considered a disease being widespread worldwide & as a mental aspect people paid up for in financing or the additional higher costs of a TDI has hurt the resale value of the TDI's as an investment & the owners now must deal with that mental cruelty too?

The looks and abuse people suffer as drivers or owners isn't that a physiological damage since a car is kind of considered a social status?

Isn't the fact that when people bought and paid up for all the petrol gasoline & in advance when buying a diesel completely upfront here in USA, yup that's a damage when you did that based on believing you were helping the environment?

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't TDI's in 2008> <MY 2009-2016 there were no incentives from VAG to buy the cars from the OEM and aside of the IRS rebate tax deduction that every tax payer paid for right & the interest rates offered by VAG or VW bank indeed were also higher than a GTI or a Rabbit at zero % while a TDI with perfect credit was above 7% & due to demand?

Monkey see, Monkey gassed?

This is pretty outrageous:
German weekly magazine Der Spiegel reported on Friday that Volkswagen was reviewing whether to seek damages of up to 1 billion euros from Bosch.

My understanding is that Bosch made the "cheat software" at VW's specific request and warned VW that it would be illegal to put it in production cars.

^^^ reminds me of that sage old adage: beware the man (read company) that smiles in a crisis - he always has someone else to blame!!
