Where can I log Boost (actual and specified) with VCDS 15.7 with Hex-Net

Hi everyone, I'm a new VCDS user and I'm having a hard time finding the ability to log "boost pressure - actual and specific) that I've been requested to log to possibly diagnose my car. I have a 2015 VW GTI 6MT (US), Hex-Net and VCDS 15.7 on a Windows PC. I can find "manifold charge pressure" but nothing labeled boost pressure. I want to see PSI or millibar output not BAR. Previous versions of VCDS have actual "boost pressure" log options. Can someone please help me?

This vehicle should use one of the latest UDS Protocol 01-Engine controllers so the good old days of Measuring Block group numbers are long gone and that isn't related to the version of VCDS you have installed. Please post the Auto-Scan so we can see which controller(s) are installed in this vehicle.

VW ECUs have never shown "boost" (which is a pressure rise above ambient). They have always shown absolute pressures (where 0 is a hard vacuum). However, many people still incorrectly refer to this as "boost". Of course, you can calculate boost yourself by subtracting ambient air pressure from absolute manifold pressure, and ambient air pressure is also available.

These are German cars. They do not use arcane units like Pounds per Square Inch for pressure or furlongs per fortnight for speed. ;)

A BAR is just 1000 milibars. Figure 14.7 PSI / BAR.

Your ECU does show both:

Charge air pressure specified value
Charge air pressure actual value

These should be in positions 84 and 85 respectively in the current data set. And yes they are in BAR. Those are the units that the good Dr. Dipl. Ing.'s at Bosch/VW decided to show you and you VILL like it, Ja? :cool:

Not in detail, no. I believe the ECU provides manifold absolute pressure in generic OBD-II format (bear in mind that UDS is effectively a superset of the current generic OBD-II protocol) while charge air pressures (specified and actual) are provided in a proprietary format. If you wish to log and compare actual vs. specified, I would use the two proprietary ones in locations 84 and 85. However, it would be interesting (from an "academic" standpoint to compare the values shown in the proprietary actual charge air pressure with the generic OBD-II manifold absolute pressure.

Uwe...do the pressure value outputs not depend on the ecu file in use? Most edc ecu files have switches for absolute/relative pressure that can be changed in the file. Would this not change values read out by VCDS?

Please post an Auto-Scan so we can see exactly what ECU your car has and what ASAM data it's using.

I would hazard a guess it's because the pressure measurements are not taken from the intake manifold. The MAP sensor is in the intercooler discharge pipe, which is your 'charge air'. There is no 'vacuum' reference in VAG GDI-T engines, not in MK5-MK7 at least. The minimum pressure you will see is 1000mb, or 1 bar. This causes a lot of confusion in some people. They see 2300mb or 2.3bar in their logs, and think that is the gauge pressure, when it's the absolute pressure, so 1000mb must be deducted to get your actual boost seen at the throttle plate.
