Hopefully this is the right forum to ask this one.

On my 2010 Golf TDI, it has an electric heater that kicks on when you turn the fan to setting one or two...when you first start the car and get going. Once the engine reaches a certain temperature, the electric heater will turn off. I have heard the engine temperature is around 165 or so, but not sure if that is certain. I'm looking to find a way to keep this electric heater on all the time in those first two fan settings, regardless of engine temperature. It gets very cold in where I live, and I have a long commute to work up at the ski resort in the winter. Does anyone have any idea how this might be accomplished? Is it something that VCDS could even do? Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not aware of any way to do accomplish that.

I found a controller, or module (forgive me, I'm still learning the terminology with VCDS) that says Aux Heater but it won't communicate with it unfortunately. Gonna do some digging. It seems like it shouldn't be too hard to do.

You mean this equipment:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 7D: Aux. Heat Labels: 1K0-963-235.lbl
Part No SW: 1K0 963 235 E HW: 1K0 963 235 E
Component: PTC-Element 0404
Revision: 00800000 Serial number:
Shop #: WSC 00000 000 00000
VCID: 2D5B0D36B4873849F4D-8078

1 Fault Found:
00361 - Heater Element for Auxiliary Heater (Z35)
014 - Defective

It can be done, but it takes a lot of electrical knowledge.
All electronics should be removed and the power connected with a separate switch on to the battery with separate fuse.

The parts until E are different from the parts starting with F and further up.

If the problem is a too cold radiator, then it's maybe better to cover a part of the radiator so the car doesn't loose a great amount of heat.

It sounds like you are talking about running the Auxiliary Heater independent of the ECU, which isn't what I'm trying to accomplish. I want to know what is telling the heater to turn off when the engine reaches a certain temperature, and if I can find a way to adjust that at all. Thanks for the reply, though.
