My Audi A6 2006 is having persistent P2404 CEL codes. I can go a few days, then one pops up. I have looked at various engine vacuum lines (and fixed one that was causing a slew of other codes, the tube near the oil dipstick that is a common problem). I replaced the Purge Value, no change, and also replaced the J757 relay that Bentley claims is often the problem. The gas cap looks good and the o-ring is in good condition.

I have read that the Audi VAG tool can be used to test the EVAP system:

"Yes, with VAG-com. Go into 01 engine electronics, 04 basic settings, group 070 and 071. One is a tank leak check, the other is purge valve function."

I didn't see anything on the Ross-Tech site or in the manual about this. Is there an EVAP test I can run using your software?

Did you see the P-code forum here?

Please post a complete auto-scan in code tags and maybe have a look at the repair manual.

www.erwin.audi.com

Here is a helpful link........

Ahhhh you could use the output tests for the N80 and LDP in addition to those 070 and 071 block tests.
0x1-03 GO/NEXT! RTFB

There is this thingy they call a mighty vac I suggest you do some reading on.

Actually I misstated where I read about J757 - it was from the Ross-Tech WIKI you reference. The tests - well, I have read the Bentley manual. They usually reference some VAG setting or other tool not easily found. That's why I asked - is there a specific set of directions to diagnose this one failure. I guess not, but that's why I asked.

I have a Mini-Vac tool - it shows that the tube near the dipstick is not holding vacuum, but this with the engine turned off. Should it hold vacuum? well, no way to tell - there is nothing I can find that tells you this. So sure, I can pull the rear wheel off, try to figure out what tube is what, and use a plug to verify the pipe/hose is not leaking. All that said, there are so many complaints about this particular code - I was hoping there might be something besides "read the manual" (which is not for the faint of heart).

Nope..........Isolate zones manually......

It starts with the heart of information called an auto-scan....... to establish all attributes.

"Core control is aware of the problem .......no information is currently available"

Auto-scan please or security access is a negative response from controller.

I'm quite new to this tool, and having a hard time understanding what your reply means. I see there is an "Auto-Scan" button. Are you telling me if I auto-scan, I may get more codes that will help me determine the problem?

With the cracked tube - the one going to the EVAP pump - I was getting a slew of errors. Finding and fixing that pipe caused most codes to go away. But I didn't do an auto-scan, so guess I can do that and see what happens.

Have no idea of what "security access is a negative response from controller" means - possibly that without posting the results of auto-scan no one can help me?

In any case, I'll isolate all the components by hand and try to find a leak somewhere.

Thank you for replying.

David,

One of the things Jack is trying to tell you is that in a modern car, with all the systems heavily networked together, it's important to look at any issues in a holistic manner, i.e. in the context of the whole car. That's why we ask people to post complete Auto-Scans. There's a tutorial on how to do that here.

Crimp tests of the N80 line should be done to see if the valve is stuck open, while doing the LDP 071 test and very common.

A dead give away the N80 is open is the fuel tank will suck down, instead of pressurizing...... like a beer can being crushed.

It sucks down so hard the straps can appear loose on tank visually.

"Core control is aware of the problem .......no information is currently available"

Sorry for my poor humor from BSG.

What I found really interesting was that the air temperature was close to boiling in the P2404 error: "91.5°C"

I don't know why users always post 00470 - Company Comfort Databus in Single Wire when its Combination Comfort Data Bus in Single Wire.

We do it because we are stupid ignorant noobies, and just do what the experts (see above) tell us (i.e., post the results of your Auto-Scan). In my particular field of endeavor, I'm not a noobie nor am I ignorant of the general expertise level, but here I am. Sorry you have to endure my ramblings.

Still no posted auto-scan............:banghead:

Stop rambling post the scan......:p

What is LDP condition of operation when running test 071 and or 0x01-03 Outputs?

This code doesn't always mean there is a leak.......it means there could be and is most likely a wiring/power supply problem or issue with noid/reed on LDP or faulty controller.

Using VCDS with the 071 test in conjunction with WD .....while observing block and DVOM would be a good idea.

It is highly unlikely you would get an implausible signal from a leak in tank.

Because there's a discrepancy between the text in VCDS and the text in the Wiki.

The text in VCDS is a more literal translation of the original German, "Konzern-Datenbus Komfort im Eindraht" than the English text in the Wiki.

Thank you for the scan....

Your new mission............

Please investigate ( D107 ) T17b/13 at current track 163 for water damage or corrosion.

( T17b - 17-pin connector, black, coupling station on electronics box, left in plenum chamber )

Thank you so much for the actionable suggestion - I had no idea that the "passing" tests would provide additional info!

In the P2404 error code, I see "Temperature: 91.5°C". Now this cannot possibly be the air temperature. I googled around for P2404, and see a bunch of other such freeze frames, and each one has a temperature of between 20 and 30 degrees C. Could my sensor be defective? Should I change it in any case?

Nope .......not related.
Stop the shot gun repair techniques.......

Traditionally the LDP tests run when engine and intake temp are low, however,.......... in FSI and later CAN cars, it runs more frequent during throttle offset and under slight load.

Continued tests in 071 during idle will historically result with small leak reported in cars after 2005>

It would be a good idea to isolate the zones and do a crimp test to verify the consistency of the noids ability to hold the PSI...........( Advised )

I looked in the Bentley manual and found the schematic with T17b and the EVAP pump on it (pages 2/12 and 2/13). I went to component locations, and looked at every section in vain to find a locator. Is this T17b - the circled connector? In any case I opened it up, the contacts are pristine. I see that D107 is the power bus going to the Purge Value as well as the EVAP pump, and that it is fused. I plan to check the fuse (when I figure out where it is), but wouldn't Auto-Scan pick that up?

This car is garaged and in excellent condition.

My wife (who drives the car) has reset this code many times using the "Automatic" app (and ODB widget). It normally triggers when she is driving around 30-40 MPH and many minutes after starting the car.

Does that circled aforementioned connector look like it holds 17 terminals or wires? :banghead:

Time to RTFB the section called how to read WD in the manual.

Get a tone generator and test from LDP up > Just follow the noise ......... Run a fast overlay.

See if supply was faulty you would see DTC's for other BUS D107 items most likely.

I would tests zones first for holding PSI generated by LDP before I went nuts with harness.

Run the LDP manually with 071 and crimps in place to establish the hold or is it electrical!

I'm in the same exact boat. I just had the evap-pump replaced and the CEL light remained off for about 30 miles.
Not sure where to go next my VAG output is. Also readiness code went from 0000 to 0010.
I do see a lot of notes about the J757 relay being the cause. I'm embarrassed to say I am unable to locate. (any hints)
Don't mind taking to my mechanic,(who initially replace the Evap-pump) but relay seems something i could handle.
And for the 13.00 it might be worth the shot. here is my output.
Thank you guys..
