My Audi 2015 A3 8V (5Q0) did not come with the folding mirror option, but getting the passenger mirror dip on reverse was easy with VCDS Release 14.10.2 following the advice on this forum and others.

- [52] Door Electronics, Passenger > Long coding > Byte 04 > Set bits 02 and 03

I'm assuming here all readers do know how it works: engage reverse, mirror selector switch to the 'passenger' position and the mirror dips to show the curb. Well, it does that but does not return to its original position afterwards (expected).

Actually I noticed a pattern: it travels a little further each time (irritating) around 10%. Just to mention, after a few times I have to readjust the mirror's position to bring it back to the view I first set.

I see a lot of discussions on this and a lot of drivers that do not bother readjusting it. Not my case though.

I found under Adaptations on [52] the following 'Channel': 'Reversing_Threshold_Passenger_Side_Front' with a 'Stored Value' of 90%. I tried but could not change it because it asks for the 'security access code'.

To the point: does anyone know the security access code to the [52] Door Electronics, Passenger? I would like to change it to '100%' and give it a go. Let's see what happens.

Finally, see below the Auto-Scan from my car:

fzanicotti:hello. I believe that your issue is hardware related- rather than being a software/coding issue.

The passenger side control module on your car is: 5Q0 959 392 B

I've recently had discussions with a colleague on another forum regarding the dipping reverse mirror: Like you, he had an MQB vehicle (mk7 Golf in his case) and like you he couldn't get the reverse mirror function to work properly. Also like you his car had the steering wheel on the wrong side - an American custom, I believe! But in his case his car was fitted with the 5Q0 959 592 B type module.

To cut a very long story short, we both concluded that the problem was that the control module (which VW calls J387) wasn't suitable for mirror dipping - our shared hypothesis was that the control module lacked the required memory module that is necessary to "re-locate" the mirror to its starting position. Without the memory facility, we argued that the re-location position would use a "rough-guess" to get back to its original position. That is, we surmised that the resetting position without the required memory would be reliant on "residual charges" (rather than an actual value in a memory address) in the electronic positioning circuits -hence the inaccurate relocation of the mirror. It's entirely possible that the module in your car suffers from the same problem!

Anyhow, to complete the story my colleague installed a 5Q4 959 592 unit (which I understand is the unit used in European countries that also have their steering wheel on the wrong side of the car). And it worked! Unfortunately, my colleague installed a 5Q4 959 592B unit on his car in his first attempt to fix this problem. To his chagrin (and to his disappointment), he found that B module reversed the "pitch" and "yaw" functions on the mirror switch.

Ahem. On what side of the car is the steering wheel fitted in dem Vaterland? ;)

DV52: thank you for responding. Do you have this discussion documented elsewhere so I can follow and perhaps contribute? I understand your argument but do not believe its hardware related. I'm sorry but I'm just not convinced. Would you please elaborate how did you and your friend get to the conclusion? I believe if there is hardware, one could be able to code it to give it a desired functionality. Add to that it is not a random return or a 'rough-guess' to quote you.

Uwe: do you know the security access code to the [52] Door Electronics, Passenger?

DV52: thank you for responding. Do you have this discussion documented elsewhere so I can follow and perhaps contribute? I understand your argument but do not believe its hardware related. I'm sorry but I'm just not convinced. Would you please elaborate how did you and your friend get to the conclusion? I believe if there is hardware, one could be able to code it to give it a desired functionality. Add to that it is not a random return or a 'rough-guess' to quote you.

Fzanicotti: not a problem if you think differently (I always applaud countervailing opinions)- my hypothesis is just that! I would be delighted to learn that your issue can be solved by a simple coding change!

In fact, I will wager a glass of your fine Brazilian beer against a glass of our Aussie brew on the outcome - to be collected by the winner if he/she ever visits the loser's place of residence!

Fair enough! I see it as a win-win contribution, plus I have a brother living in New Zealand and to fly there usually we have AUS in our route. BTW, your wines are not behind. Last year I watched live Australia vs. Spain game in Curitiba. Aussie soccer fans make a lot of noise!

It's the same problem on all MBQ cars (Golf 7, Octavia 3, Audi A3 8v). I've coded 5-10 cars and all of them are not returning to its original position.

Perhaps the "Reversing_Threshold_Passenger_Side_Front" would solve the problem.... if anyone knows the code...

Discoboy: As I indicated to Fzanicotti, my MQB car has a fully functioning mirror on the passenger door controller when reversing. Here's the admap from my car. As you can see, "Reversing_Threshold_Passenger_Side_Front has a setting of 90%.

Discoboy: true, DV52 contributed a lot to this topic but let's not forget he drives on the wrong side of the road! :D Anyway, differences may apply to the modules. Bits and bytes behave odd sometimes. Keep posting your findings.
