The other day I've tried to replace the original gateway in my 2011 Polo 6R 1,6 TDI with start/stop system.

Originally it has the following gateway:

Address 19: CAN Gateway Labels: 6R0-907-530-V1.clb
Part No SW: 6R0 907 530 B HW: 1K0 907 951
Component: J533 Gateway H28 0020
Revision: H28 Serial number: 240910F1002717
Coding: 7D021D00080000000002
Shop #: WSC 00788 648 00255
VCID: 32613AF2AD920F8E5D9-8067

I tried to replace it with 7N0907530D. It was just one that I've had in my garage. Don't know where it came from.

Why? Because I wanted to have the possibility to code it for [20-High Beam Assist]. My 6R GW does not support that.

It turned out that everything is working except the ABS unit. There were no connection to the ABS unit. I've looked in ElsaWin and the connections are the same for the 2 gateways, but VCDS can't connect.

Does the Polo ABS have a special version of can-bus since it can't connect?

Address 03: ABS Brakes (J104) Labels: 6R0-907-37x-ESP82.clb
Part No SW: 6R0 907 379 AJ HW: 6R0 907 379 AF
Component: ESP8.2i front H05 0001
Revision: --------
Coding: 210228E3416E00BA842D14E282D500521300
Shop #: WSC 00788 648 00255
VCID: 86093622359AC32E211-80D3

There we no problems connecting to engine, cluster, radio ect. The car also started perfect - but with some lights on because the of ABS..

In know that 7N0 are not designed for the Polo. It should just be fun having another gateway. Later on I would replace it with a 7N0...BC gateway in order to code it for 5F-Infotainment...

Any ideas?

That Polo ABS does diagnostics via TP1.6 and one might speculate that the 7N0 gateway doesn't support that...?

Hmm... The 7N0 gateway only supports 2.0?
Wonder if and older 1K0 gateway would support both 1.6. But still new enough to support [20-High Beam Assist]...

Polo (and derivatives) are rather unique... One of the very few cars that requires a scan tool that does TP1.6. When the first CAN diagnostics appeared in 2003/2004, it was ALL TP2.0. Imagine our surprise when the 6J/6R chassis was introduced 5 years later and required TP1.6. Hello? Someone didn't get the memo that this protocol is obsolete and has been deprecated?

Forget anything 1K0, 3C0 and 7N0 - those are all PQ35/PQ46 gateways which do not support TP 1.6 for CAN-Powertrain. For all PQ25 (Polo Platform) Models, CAN TP 1.6 for CAN-Powertrain is mandatory...

Okay. Got a new project.

Is the new Polo 6C using the same TP1.6 as 6R?

Now that I've can't change the gateway and have to forget all about the Light Assist, it could be fun to change the BCM (and steering).

I've done it on my Passat (B6 Cent. Elect -> B7 BCM), so I've believe my skills are okay to do the wiring changes.

Got this BCM:
Address 09: Cent. Elect. (J519) Labels: 6R0-937-08x-09.clb
Part No SW: 6R0 937 088 B HW: 6R0 937 088
Component: BCM PQ25 Re4 H46 0321
Revision: BU046001 Serial number: 0328 265101202
Coding: 3CB02BBF48A10000213007F03DAB1FD8CF80610F7E062049200000000000
Shop #: WSC 124697 483 00190

The new BCM is PQ26. Is that also TP1.6 or? Question is if it will work...

I've just found a random VCDS log on Google from the new Polo:

Address 09: Cent. Elect. (J519) Labels: None
Part No SW: 6C0 937 089 A HW: 6C0 937 089

Looks like they finally cleaned up the Polo and got rid of TP1.6.

The PQ25 BCM was never TP1.6, only CAN-Powertrain modules were TP 1.6 - unless it contained the Gateway the it supported both depending on the outputs/inputs. Meaning ECM, Trans, Airbag etc. were TP1.6... Yet this wasn't true for all possible configurations in the platform, but some. Switching from a PQ25 to a PQ26 BCM? Good luck. :) What you're comparing this to (B6>B7) is not even close...

Hmm... This project never stops..

This is made in my 2011 Polo 1.6 TDI...

I've just tried to switch my original climatronic (6R0907044B) to the new 6C0907044. Why? Because it looks better :)

In my gateway I've get this error and the interior light starts to turn on and off the whole time. Wiring has been checked several times. It's a new connector, but the wiring is 1:1 - just a new connector.

Is this also because if the new versions of can-bus in 6R vs. 6C ?
