Thats bad news, i though that the plug is for the illumination.

Any thoughts on how to make the buttons lit up?
you should post autoscan with working buttons as we spoke .
then we can look what you have

Guys, I'm moving this thread to the Retrofits section. Those of you who aren't verified members yet will need to get verfied if you want to continue to participate.

Caddy 2015 MFSW fully working in my 10 years old Touran ;)
https://youtu.be/lU3CNWHqj0A

Is it the same MFSW as in the Golf7 or the Polo? I have retrofitted an MK7 GTI MFSW and none of the buttons work as they should except for the Paddles.
What did you change in the wiring? I have an Sharan 2012 Gateway, Touran 2010+ Color Instrumentpanel, 653C Clockspring, 549CH Steeringcolumnmodule

Vdub:I'm not sure about your Sharan, but the major change that the boffins @ VW made to the steering wheel for the mk7 was the inclusion of the multifunction steering wheel in a network.

Here's an extract from the mk7 SSP
While the multifunction steering wheel control unit J453 was previously a LIN slave to the steering column electronics control unit J527, it is now connected directly to the diagnostic interface for data bus J533 as a LIN slave. As is visible in the network, the signals from the multifunction steering wheel are, as previously the case, transmitted via the coil connectors and the steering column electronics control unit, but for wiring reasons only. They do not have any effect on functions there
Here's a diagrammatic depiction of the different network arrangement

Is the network arrangement for your Gateway from the 2012 Sharan the same as the mk7?
Don

EDIT: ok - I was finally able to find a Sharan 2012 autoscan HERE. Looks like the Gateway has no LIN modules (alas). Note that the multi-function steering wheel module on the Sharan is the more traditional setup- it hangs off J527 (i.e the module @address hex16 like the pre mk7 diagram above). Whereas the portion of an auto-scan from my mk7 (below) shows the multi-function steering wheel module being a slave on the J533 Gateway.

Sorry for being the harbinger of bad news - but this suggests a fundamental compatibility problem (I think)

I have a Caddy '06 by the way.. Does it help changing the cable from the wheel to one from a Golf6 or newest VW Polo?

Why is everything working fine in your Touran?

I have a 5K0953569T SWCM with a 5G0419091xx (Passat B8) steering wheel. Added the Bronken module, but then only audio buttons work and the paddles. Buttons are illuminated. I read there is no way to get this working without a converter module that converts the new style lin2.0 messages to old style (RNS510) lin2.0 messages.

My steering wheel is also heated. Would be nice to get that working too. I was thinking of replacing the slipring from the B8 into the B7 SWCM and then connect these two wires outside of the SWCM, since my 5K0953569T does not have SW to support heating.

The place to start would be to post an Auto-Scan, and the part number of the steering wheel you have installed wouldn't hurt either.
