boring I know, so many have EPB issues - this may be different, brake disengages then self engages again.
I have an EPB on a Passat that engages fine, disengages fine BUT immediately re-engages after disengage. I am reluctant to rattle on with too much waffle, given the excessive number of posts already on this system.
Can I ask, does anyone know (a) what may cause this and how I may assess ... the sole remark on VCDS is no fault code tied to handbrake but says some low voltage issue ... I then ask, if low voltage, surely should not operate, not double-operate to coin a term ... if inadequate power, why use more? The brake works, it then release, can feel pedal rise, but immediately re-applies itself.
(b) Is the button a solely mechanical connecting terminal joining circuits .... or is it a 'smart' button ... I mean the term 'electronic' suggest the button is doing more than opening and closing circuits, or is that not the case? This is not idle curiosity, I wonder if I could bypass the switch in a 'paddock' car, off road car, if it is not a 'smart' switch.
(c) could flat tyre trigger this? One other thing is, the car has sat for a while and had flat tyre; my son suggested that maybe the car is 'so smart' that it will not release brake until tyre code is cleared ... there is no tyre code by the way, except on the dashboard .... I pumped up tyres and VCDS had nothing to say on tyres anyway. I actually cleared all fault codes as part of process to remove this issue as the car has partially disassembled status (lights etc) and battery had gone flat etc..
This is not a street car and is non urgent , curiosity query really ... mystifying. I'll find a way around if need be . The car was damaged and is a farm utility now, has sat for a while and 'out of the blue' the handbrake issue. I have it on full charge, I have tried various things read on many posts on here, battery disconnects and on/off'ing the epb etc. Even tried to over-ride by drive forward to assess if auto-hold may have a role ... btw auto-hold light has ceased to light so may be related I guess... now I write it, seems likelier, had not pondered that enough maybe.
Oh, and I did not post a scan as it seems premature and so many asking on EPB I feel awkward , sorry ... a scan would shock you all anyway with countless lights and air bag faults due to the partial disassembly of this 'utility' wagon ... but none of these relate to the EPB. The only scans I may need to give are the auto-hold and epb (I think) but I feel this is more a question that 'experience' will answer, not a scan.
Above all please forgive if my post is too boring for words ... I am bored just asking ... ha ha ... all the breast folks, and yes, I ham a new bee.
