Hello all.

I recently installed a CTS K04 kit on my 2012 Mk6 GLI. A couple days after install, I got a CEL.

1 Fault Found:
008598 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1
P2196 - 000 - Signal too High (Rich) - MIL ON

So to diagnose it, I checked measuring blocks 1, 32, and 34.
I didn't appear to be running rich since adaptation at idle was at 0.8% and partial was at -1.6%.

So I took out the gasket from the DP and turbo connection to inspect it, and it felt super cheap and flimsy so I replaced it with an OEM one. Slapped the DP back on and the code came back a week after I cleared it.

At this point I'm stumped.

If anyone can give me some insight, that'd be great.

Hmmmmm auuuuuuu Ooooooooooo-okay! Good Coffee!

Ahhh when you run the K04 and higher boost PSI...... the spring rate in said N80 or other valves connected to intake that could allow for the rich gases to enter upon being stuck open, or even sporadically say at full tank time........

Don't be so sure because you did something in one area it can't effect another.

Check with your tuner maybe calibrations are not correct?
Who is your tune with?

The other is maybe an injector sticking but an N80 is much easier to check or change/cheaper.

On high boost cars I build for race track.
I install a strong metal one way valve........
This allow vapors in when switched, and boost blocked from the N80 that it might not be able to handle.

Unfortunately most likely no or not always...............

You should let GIAC know though and see what they think or are experiencing any issues on other cars.
Respectfully, this happens on stock cars all the time due to the valve being made of straw and human feces......

This code does not mean the car is running rich 4 sure. It means that the upstream O2 sensor is showing rich HOWEVER the downstream O2 sensor does not show a value corresponding with the rich condition of the upstream O2 sensor. This is a part of O2 sensor plausibility monitoring strategy. Which will compare readings of both O2 sensors and figure out if the readings of the upstream O2 sensor correspond with readings of the downstream O2 sensor.

I believe (don't know for sure) that you can check this in MVB 37 field 3 with the result inn field 4. Anytime that the ratio of those readings gets out of predetermined values, you will get the plausibility code (rich or lean).

Exhaust leaks can cause that as well as bad O2 sensors, upstream, downstream or both.

MVB 32 was OK and well within the idle +/- 6% and part idle +/- 21% specification because the system did not recognized the upstream rich reading as valid.

Monitor MVB 30 to see the O2 sensor status, MVB 31 to see voltages, MVB 32 to see adaptation and MVB 37 to see the difference in lambda (lean / neutral / rich) in field 3. Anything out of 0 will indicate that there is a difference between readings of upstream and downstream O2 sensors. I think, you will have a problem if this value is outside +/- 0.03.

Could you do me a favor and clear codes and post an immediate new auto-scan after car has ran for 10 minutes at idle not driven?

Is the down pipe larger than the original and or is the CAT present or a larger unit?
